95-97 please. Not sure how much shipping would be, but I'm having trouble finding them locally.

Thanks,
Steve

I have a pair of manifolds I would sell. 95-97 are the flat flange, not the ball and socket style, correct?

Unfortunately, the stock Y-Pipes are unobtainium ... most were taken to scrap after a hearder install.

I can get them as far as Hallett ... Anyone from your region making it to Hallett?

I don't know what the difference is actually, I just know they are different. Not sure about Hallett, but I'm sure I can find out. So, if I can't find a stock Y-pipe, what are my options?

Make one?

The best setup for a CMC car is the Y pipe/manifolds from a single cat car - the cat is after the Ypipe so you just remove one cat and just have to fab an intermediate pipe with a muffler and a dump. Or, if you have some room on weight you can run the stock intermediate/over axle pipe to a muffler in the back, and just have to fill in the gap where the cat was. You will need manifolds from a single cat car also. 94 was all single cat, and maybe some 95's in some parts of the country were single cat, others dual. I think that by the end of the 95 model year production they were all dual cat.

The 93's were all single cat but there was something funky about the manifold design that made them snap off the rearmost pass side bolt at the surface of the head. Bitch to fix, avoid them. GM redesigned them for 94.

So your search is restricted to 94, and maybe some 95. Check with Jeff at CAM.

I have a 'test pipe' available that will fill the gap from the single cat: http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=8307

I have a full dual cat Ypipe but it would need both cats removed and replaced with tubing, needs to be done on the car by a good exhaust guy. There are way more crappy exhaust shops out there than good ones so if you don't personally know a good one I would stick with the search for a single cat Y. Here's my dual, FWIW: http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?showtopic=15364

I also have a single cat intermediate/overaxle pipe, $30. If you can find the manifolds and Y, you could finish it with my 'test pipe' and the overaxle and the system would be a bolt on, no welding. Any 4th gen muffler would bolt on.

Ball and Socket style

Flat flange (uses a gasket)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/96-97-Camaro-Fireb...541&vxp=mtr

I don't see the driver's side cat and section of this pipe. I would ensure it comes with it.

Jegs offers them ...

Maybe not so unobtanium ... but pricey!

I've got a guy locally who will sell me 95 manifolds for $35. Does it matter if they are Fbody or not? I'll post the pics when I get them before I buy and let you guys tell me if it's a single cat or not.

That Y pipe from Jegs doesn't look too bad. I'm going to try to sell my entire exhaust off my car. Hooker LT headers (slightly beat up from bottoming out), 3" SS piping, dual high flow cats, and a Magnaflow muffler. Dual left side exit, just like a stock SS.

I'm just afraid that JEGS Y pipe will be too close to the pan.
Steve91T
The manifolds are from a 95 b-body. F-body only? Or will these work?

ANY Y-pipe will be too close to the pan.

I glued reflective heat material to the bottom of the pan and wrapped the Y where it crossed over.

This dude with the manifolds will have 96 TA manifolds available tomorrow. If I go with an aftermarket y-pipe like the JEGS, does it still matter what year I get? Except for 93 obviously.

I'm assuming the specific years are for ease of cutting the cats out.

I've also wrapped the Ypipe where it crosses under the pan with a larger piece of exhaust tubing. This only works if there is enough clearance to get something in there. I've seen aftermarket Y's that were contacting the oil pan. This is worst case for oil temps.

Yes, it matters - the flanges are different - see Mitch's post

And for the lightest, most compact, and least likely to touch the oil pan.

Here's the manifolds in question. They are 95 b-body. I can't tell what kind of flange they are.

This is for a CMC ride? <edit>

If it doesn't say you can, then you can't.

Check with your regional series director to make sure.

If they are identical, it shouldn't matter, right?
mitchntx
Assumptions will bite you in the ass.

Assuming they are identical and proving that they are are two different animals altogether.

There may not be an issue. But being as you have now publicly said what they are (see I edited my post), you need to check with your regional director to make sure you what you can use if parts are questionable.

Aftermarket Y's are OK because anything after the exhaust manifolds are open.

Ultimately ... your regional director has the proper ruls interpretation. Don't rely on a schmuck like me.

Mitch,

What kind of material did you glue to your pan?

Steve,

I picked up a dual cat Y pipe for free that was missing the driver's side cat/pipe. I went to Speedway and picked up a driver's side flange and had a pipe made. Don't have pics, but the overall setup looks pretty good.

Perhaps you can have a Y pipe made?

Mitch,

Can't recall the exact material, but it came folded and in a package similar to header wrap.

It was or like this stuff

http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/productd...ect-cloth/75/21

only in a small quantity ... maybe a 18" x 18" sheet.

I cut to fit and used high temp RTV to glue it to the pan.
Steve91T
JEGS only had the y pipe for 93-95 manifolds, no 96-97.

I really don't want to have someone make an exhaust, I'd rather try to find one that just bolts up. I'd have to rent a trailer just to get the car to the exhaust shop.

Have longtubes (or even shorty headers) always been verboten in CMC (and even CMC2)??

They're only allowed on certain cars to get to the required power levels. 3rd gens are allowed shorty headers and 2v mod motors get long tubes. Most LT1/LS1 cars don't need headers to get to the power level, quite a few still have to run restrictor plates.
Steve91T
Still looking for exhaust manifolds for a 94-95 LT1.

Thanks,
Steve

I do have a pair ... with heat shields (can't remove them in CMC)

$50 for the pair and they are yours. Shipping costs are gonna be a bitch, though.

Hallett is out obviously ... but I can probably find them a ride to Nationals if you aren't in a hurry.

I've been thinking of your manifolds, but I really need the 94-95 manifolds. Summit racing has a nice Y pipe for the 93-95's, but I cant find anything for the 96-97's.

I've got the 396 out, just need to start swapping stuff over to the junkyard lt1 and drop it in. I was planning on doing that next week.

Yours are the "newer" style, right?
Steve91T
Here's the Y pipe I found.

Yes, I have a set that will work with the ball and socket style Y-Pipe.
I also have a pair that will work with the flat flange style.

Truth be known ... I have several ... of each.

The ball and socket style will need the studs replaced.

Is it a big deal to replace the studs?

How much?

Soak with penetrating fluid, clean threads, double nut and remove.
Remember to twist a bit, back off and clean, twist a bit more, back off and clean and so-on till it clears.
Don't want to gall the threads.

$50 plus whatever it takes to ship them.

B-body LT1 exhaust manifolds are different from f-body manifolds, different part numbers. Can't even get them new through GM anymore.

I found some guy up in Indiana who has a pair of 94's, and one guy in Chicago who has a pair complete with the Y pipe, just not sure what year they are.

Maybe someday soon CMC will allow some sort of inexpensive header.

EDIT: Finally found some manifolds along with the Y pipe. Thanks everyone!
