Finally got the motor yanked out of my old ITE/AIX car. The car ran last in 2003 after winning the SFR SCCA ITE regional championship - water pump nipple failed in a post season race at Thunderhill, I parked the car in my new shop and built a business.

Here's where it was earlier yesterday:

ported heads by Doug Rippe Motorsports, with big stainless Ferrea valves. Ports and seats were fluffed by Mike Blackstone of Watson Racing prior to the last season on the car. $350 $300 for both, assembled as pictured with valves, springs (I recommend replacing them) Ti retainers, guideplates and 7/16" studs.







Sometime in the 9years that the car was sitting in my shop or garage, some water got into #7 and 8, rusting the bores and leaving this residue in the intake ports - valves are stainless, I think they should clean up OK. The orange residue on the combustion chambers brushed right off.







Got a port matched intake also, pics later.

Do you have any idea of what the heads do on a flowbench?

Dibs on the head bolts if they fit a SBC. I'll have to double check.

Proform SBC centerbolt valve covers. Never installed, had them sitting on the motor but never bolted down or run. One of them has some oxidation pitting that will buff out.

Looks like there may be an issue - I'm going to pass for now.

If they need some cut 'n paste for a clearance issue, I can likely take care of that. I can also test fit on LT1 or SBC heads with the CC or wide body Crane rockers.

On a Fbod LT1, a section definitely needs to be notched for the alternator, I can handle that.

Actually they are for a truck I'm building. I'm only to the point of mocking up the engine on the frame (body is off) in a couple weeks, so I'm going off others experience with tall covers.

I think the AC is the other challenge, so I don't want to buy anything I'm not sure about.

Are the valve seats for the rusty chambers going to need replaced?

Cam was an Ultradyne grind - 234/242 @ .050, it is spoken for.

I can pop a valve out and see if the seats clean up with scotchbrite

Hi Alan. I know it's not listed, but do you have happen to have the wiring that goes from the optispark to the ignition part of the wiring loom. The Dynaspark that we installed had the wiring built into the Dynaspark unit so we pitched the cable, figuring the Dynaspark was the last opti replacement we'd ever need. The one time I don't horde something and it comes back to bite me.

How much power did this motor make? Is the tune still available if he wanted to cut and paste (not sure if there is a file that can be sent or??)?

I popped the intake valve for one of the rusty cylinders out - guide is still tight, had to tap it out with a wooden mallet.

Looks terrible, eh?



But, about a minute with a scotchbrite pad cleaned the valve and seat up nicely, doesn't look like any real damage was done:

Jason - That is a part that needs to be replaced every couple years anyway - the opti end connector will corrode, gets a green fuzz on it.

Caspers makes a harness for the late opti with the long snout. $45 at Summit, part number CEI-108097

I used to keep one in stock, not sure if I have one now, I can check tomorrow.

373rwhp at about 6100rpm. TQ was 345 about 4000rpm The big Ultradyne cam was a little too big, or not enough displacement, it was a little soggy on the bottom end.
Tune is all here: http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?sho...c=16020&hl= it is not locked so if I could find someone to read the flash from the bare PCM the buyer of the heads can have it, but honestly, the tune will have more to do with choice of cam than anything else.

The same heads with a LT4 Hot cam had a lot more bottom end, got me 192MPH at the May 2001 Silver State, it was probably about 350rwhp then.

The original cam that DRM put in the motor when they rebuilt it was a baby smog cam, made 323rwhp with CARB legal accessories and shorty headers and a single cat. That cam later went into the Fowler #92 AI car, and was perfect there, about 330rwhp and 3200#, was right on the AI spec.
