Full Version: Just a minor update...

Figured I'd post an update of where my car is at now. Spent a while during my off time doing a T-56 swap on the V6. Installed new suspension components as well as Blainefab spacers. I'm loving this car even more with the manual trans. I had a 3800 stall and a built auto before, and decided to try and sell it off since the drag strips are dead around here.

Anybody know what class I'd be in if I were to go to an SCCA event on street tires?

Anyway, here we go!

New parts:

Suspension/Chassis:
Front:
Strano 35mm swaybar
Strano SP141 springs
Koni Yellow 4/4 shocks
Rear:
Strano 22mm swaybar
Strano SP141 springs
Koni Yellow 4/4 shocks

ARP Wheel studs & Blainefab 1/2" spacers

Drivetrain:
UMI Torque Arm Relocation Cross member
Mal-Wood Ecotec V6 to T-56 bellhousing adapter
Tick performance master cylinder
Centerforce clutch
GTO MM12 T-56 (6-speed transmission)
MGW T-56 shifter

Spent most of the day doing this last part of buttoning everything back in with new carpet:

How it sits now (on lower spring perch up front and still have the isolators in the rear):

Minus the 6-speed its probably in STX if your tires are 265 or smaller width. I'm not entirely sure on the torque arm mount, but the 6-speed is the glaring issue. Locally I'd run STX and not worry about it. Should be 100% legal for ESP, but you're pretty under prepped there.

Haha running 275's all four corners right now. It's just something as far as throwing it out there. If we get a close enough event I'll probably find some el cheapo stockers and run a good set of compounds on there. Our chapter only runs at one location right now, and it's an hour and a half drive. Some have said the location equates to driving in a gravel pit right now...

Most wouldn't think it's a 6 speed since it is a V6, but I doubt I'll be in it enough to get worthwhile points.

Added UMI Performance 3 point weld-in SFC's. Holy cow did these actually increase the rigidity of the chassis! I don't have t-top squeak anymore when pulling into my angled driveway. Also, I was able to lift both tires off the ground when lifting from one point on the side!

Ride height with Stranos, lowest perch on new spring isolators and koni yellows. Light under the car makes it look really high lol!

Good look at the T-56 with modified crossmember, oil slicks are from the valve covers. They leak more because of the adapter plate I had to sandwich in there for the rockers.

Welding it all in:

Spark plug change, getting it up on ramps/stands:

Speedline Mistral 6's. Bought them off an SCCA World Challenge Camaro, refinished, added rubber and have been enjoying them ever since!

How much faith and trust do you put into that front cross member for auto crossing?

It was an improvement over the stamped steel setup, that's for sure. Both for front end weight loss and improved working room around the engine.

I don't get to autox unfortunately (over an hour drive and from what I understand the arena is mostly gravel so that's a no), so it has been street driven for well over 30K miles without any signs of wear/stress cracks. If you knew the streets of Lubbock, you wouldn't be to worried after my claim of how many miles are on it. They're rough. I'm certain it could handle the auto crossing ventures just fine.

This is the PA Racing cross member that is also reinforced as an added cost, so they'd set one up specifically for road racing.

Thanks, I've tried to keep an eye out for more of them as a "just in case" type of thing, but I haven't seen them floating about...
