I havn't posted over here in a while, but Since I've learned so much from here for my 4th gen I thought I would share my current project that I'm just getting out of the garage. Had her first AutoX last weekend and I'm planning to take it to Carolina Motorsports park in April. Here's a few build pics and some shots from last weekend. Enjoy!

Mills, glad to see your posting your fantastic '67 on FRRAX. If you're going to CMP, be sure to carry extra front pads and rotors for the weekend. That place is murder on brakes! Been there, done that, and spent a fortune on broken/spent brake items with the Corvettes. - Greg

Hey Greg! Only one day at CMP is for flying laps, the other for Autox. It will have brand new HP+ pads and new rotors, plus the fluid is fresh as well. It held together at Pungo, we'll see how she does at CMP!

a few shots of the car thus far this year, getting ready for VIR in July! First test to see if I can use the 2.59 gear in it or not. 2.59 isn't so good for standing start single laps or autox I'm finding out LOL! VIR should see 140mph + rolleyes.gif

on the grid with the DSE cars at CMP, car kicked butt right off the stands, but not Tucker kinda butt yet.

On track at CMP in April,

More refined and headed to Acedemi (blackwater training facilty) Test track that our club rented for an event.

Really off camber turn at Blackwater, but still sticking in there!

How much faster was Kyle than you on the Autox?
Beach Cruiser
Maybe a second and a half or so. It was more like a short road course with cones in some spots. Not the typical autox I'm used to. What hurts me on the autox is the standing start, I'm losing 2-3 seconds off the line trying to get that 2.59 gear spooled up! I'm no match for Launch Control AWD subies!

Beautiful ride! Looks well done.
What front subframe is on there? DSE, Martz ?

I wish I would have taken that approach instead of the street friendly pro-touring approach I took with my '68. She looked like a million bucks though. . . .

Havn't posted here in a while, been a busy year! I had a lot of ups and downs with the car, but mostly ups! Wrecked it at VIR in July only to come back bigger better faster. Car is a beast! everything I wanted when I designed it. Gotta expect a few bumps in the road when you build a car in you garage with scrap metal you aquire here and there! Anyway, here's a few high light pictures from the year.

all my conquests this year!

Hope to be doing a lot more of this next year!

Nice pix, the car looks fun. Heh that one photo looks like you're AX'ing and the lot just drops off into the ocean. Don't go off course!! laugh.gif

Heh, it IS a 'feature' of that site. While it's pretty good-sized, and I'm sure they keep the active course far away from the edge, a bad 'off' could end up in the water, as it does dump right into the sea. That's an air-cushioned landing craft base that one of the autocross groups use to run on.

Are the front bars (bolted between the front frame and the firewall) connected to anything behind that firewall? I don't think I see a full cage in the car so I wondered what was actually supporting those bars.
CrashTestDummy
I had some 'Herb Adams bars' that worked a lot like that on my 71 T/A. Other than busting the windshield when the front subframe fell off the wood blocks and jackstands when we were painting the firewall, they worked quite well at stiffening up the chassis, even w/o a roll cage. Of course, we used solid aluminum bushings between the body and subframe, but that was it.

Yes, that site is Assult Craft Unit 4 (ACU-4) located on the Navy Base at Little Creek in Virginia Beach. It's a landing pad/tarmac for the Big Hovercraft landing units. Those things are Massive! The Concrete goes right into the Chesapeake Bay and yes we set the course back quite a ways from the edge, it looks closer than it really is. The site is so big we usually run 3 cars on the course at a time, and a typical run is in the 50-60sec range. The last pics are from the Virginia AutoX Championships, we drew 150 cars from all over the east coast. It was also a week before the Nationals which are also run on Concrete. Our club has exclusive use of that site for our AutoX's Tidewater Sports Car Club, or TSCC for short.

Those bars are bolted into cups that are welded into the firewall. It's also reenforced behind with plating. The cup has the center cut out so I can run a bar in from the back side and weld it for the extension of the cage o the bar that will eventually be in the dash area. Currently the front of the cage hasn't been built yet. Since I drive it on the street quite a bit will testing stuff, I didn't want to have a cage in it with out a helment on my noggin.

At the bottom of the ramp is a huge sandbar that goes out quite a ways out. As the Solo Safety Steward for a SEDivisional Solo event at Assault Craft Unit 4 (ACU-4), part of my safety brief was "if you go off course into the bay, don't panic - kill the engine and wait until the vehicle settles into the soft sand"! Never had one go into the bay which is good because trying to get the car out of the sand (trap) would require a wrecker!

Lovin the pics, thanks for posting!

Haven't updated anything over here in a while, Been running the car hard all year and fixing broken stuff during the time in between! Highlights thus far are that I got my Instructors License for NASA, and got an Invite to the Ultimate Track Car Challenge, and I've broken two ST10s. Here are a few pics from the UTCC
https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/events/UTCC14/

Home now from the Ulitmate Track Car Challage, I didn't get chance to take very many pictures. I ended up finishing 27th overall, not bad considering all the "hardware" that was in the field. But the highlight was winning the fastest Vintage award! There were 5 cars running in the vintage group and I ended up the fastest! I only ran a 2.12 lap, about 4 seconds slower than my best. I'm guessing the areo I added slowed me down, and I didn't get enough runs to really learn how to drive it in the corners with it on the car. Transmission is still a problem, I Just pulled it out last night and opened up the cover to take a peek, and luckely none of the gears are missing teeth, it does look like some mauled up 3rd gear, but it's not too bad. The case did have a lot of metal in it. It's going back to the shop that built it today.

Here's some pics to enjoy, I'm gonna try and find some of the other cars and I'll post them as well.

NICE!!

As good as the Z06 rollers look on there, it would look that much sicker if it had the 'Minilite' style wheels like Hotrodf1 has on his 1st gen, especially if TOTALLY painted in the same comp grey color as the Z06es. wink.gif (I don't know how much those would weigh though as compared to the Alcoa Vette wheels?)

I don't think that I've really posted much over here on my 67 Track prepared Camaro so here is the latest news, and I'll update this as I progress. If you want to see the whole build thread on the car you can find it here: http://www.lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=16169 Got the motor out this summer and set up in the garage for the tear down. Good thing I decided to do this because I found a lot of metalish stuff in the oil when I drained it. Got some new stuff in from http://www.improvedracing.com/ , They agreed to help me out with a few goodies! They are Beach Cruiser Racing's First "real" Sponsor! Please visit their site for any of your LSx Oiling needs! Here's a few updates:

After some careful thought I decided to not use that LS1 because it was on the edge of blowing up, so I found a local LS6 low mileage shortblock to swap in.

Got the car all put together and did some local test and tune at the Local autoX

Here's the "money shot" that my friends wife took. I should be getting all the hi res pictures from the track photographer sometime next week. It doesn't look like it, but running about 165 mph here!

I left out a lot of stuff because I couldn't post but so much. Let me know if you guys want to see anything else.
Smitty2919
IMO it is awesome to see these older cars transformed into a autox/RR car. I would LOVE to own one as a race toy some day.

Keep up the good work, and keep posting pics of this thing!

I was just about to ask what size mower deck fits under there? smile.gif

The shiny side is still up, so there's not much to complain about. These things happen. The car looks great!

I have a video of me running my 71 Trans Am down the front straight at TWS at about 140 (I limited my RPM to keep the stock rods inside the block) that was taken from the garage area. It didn't look that fast on video, didn't feel that fast in the car.... until you try to slow down for turn 1 onto the road course!! 2thumbs.gif

Nice pic. Beautiful ride.
