I did enjoy it! How much power weight is your AI Camaro? LS1, right? I love the sounds it makes.

Glad you did! My 130k+ mile ls1 finally gave way last year so I replaced it with a cheap junkyard 5.3 (lm4). I swapped the cam out for an ASA cam and changed valve springs and put it in the car. It makes 333 rwhp and the car weighs 3284 with me (240 lbs) and a full tank of gas. I'm still down 30 hp but intend on pulling weight as opposed to making more power. I've still got, amongst other things, the factory hatch and glass which accounts for a significant amount of weight and I could stand to lose about 30 lbs myself.

Do you mind me asking how many miles and how much you paid for the engine? I wish CMC rules would allow us to use the iron 5.3. People are picking up complete engines for less than $500, and about double that for the Aluminum block 5.3.

LT1's and LS1's are hard to find and the price is through the roof.

39k for 800 shipped. The lm4 is an aluminum block but comes with the 862 heads instead of the more desired 799 heads that come on the more expensive l33 motor. You just have to drill a hole in the block for the dipstick, and swap to the ls1 windage tray, oilpan, and intake. The motor I got was out of a 2004 Buick rainier. On that motor the water temp sensor and the oil pressure sensor were not compatable with my 98 harness.

Wow, great deal. If you have any more videos, I'd love to see them. Keeps me motivated to work on my CMC Camaro.

Lap times?

Car is moving.

I see you are on the limiter into 10A, what gear and where is the limiter set at?

Great video! You running a 4-speed?

1:38.3 was my fastest of the weekend. I'm still leaving a lot of time on the table though. I could pick up speed through just about every corner. Will (wstukas) was running 1:35s this weekend in qualifying with a 1:36-1:37 average race pace. If nationals were at Mid-Ohio again this year I think he'd be the guy to beat for sure. I think he had his camera running this weekend so maybe he'll post up his vids. Looking at it from a positive perspective.... this was only my 5th race so I'm glad that I'm still finding more speed. I would be concerned if I already plateaued. I'm still at the point where everytime I go on track I get a little faster which is satisfying.

Yeah, my rev limiter was set at 6150 until after Sunday qualifying and then bumped it up to 6500.

Thanks! Yep, I'm running a super T-10 with a 3.23 rear gear.

Good video Allen. Glad you got the car back together. Hopefully work holds steady close to home this year and I can make a trip down to RA to run with you guys. What's a good event to go to RA? November?

Thanks TJ! Are you still racing in AI?

The Toy Run race weekend in December always has a big turn out. Last year we had 15 or so AI cars. Dean Martin, Roddy Sterling, Richard Golinelo, the Florida region guys, etc made the trip to run. I'd recommend any guys looking to make the trip to come that weekend but any weekend that out of region guys come to run is always fun.

Yep, still running AI. Been working at home all year, so I've actually had time to work on the car. Prep level is getting back to when we were winning more often. I'm going to hold off on putting the CMC car together until over the winter and actually get to have a full season this year.

I'll start looking into December. We're usually finished up by October, so that would be sweet to break up the off-season.

Great video. Are all AI cars faster than the FFR cars? They have less weight with more power. So, what are you doing with the mirror every lap or so? It looks like you are flicking off the camera.

Thanks! Not all AI cars are faster, the front runners are but I'm not quite there yet. The front running FFR cars were around 1.5 seconds or so faster than me. I picked up a vibration only at high RPMs in 4th gear this weekend due to a bent wheel so I was having to put my finger on the mirror to see out of it. The mirror tends to shake even without a vibration in the car. I need to put rubber under the clamps to dampen the vibrations... and of course get a new wheel.

What happened to the Firebird you had before the Camaro?

The motor in it blew up at Road Atlanta. I was then looking for another motor when I came across the Camaro on this forum. It was advertised as wrecked so I was just planning on swapping the ls1/t56 into the Trans Am. When the car was delivered it looked like it was in good shape so I took it to a reputable shop to make sure the unibody wasn't too bent. To my surprise it wasn't. At that point I decided to part out the Trans Am and build the Camaro.

Sounds like it worked out. I'm pretty sure I was running DE3 that same weekend at RA you were running the Firebird.

Nice! I think I remember seeing your car that weekend as well. That was my last DE2 weekend. You have a black t/a right? I I remember correctly your car sounded stout. It's always cool seeing other f-bodies at the race track. Are you going to do any events with nasa in the near future?

Thx Allen. Yup, I drive the black T/A. I really enjoy seeing other f-bodies too - a rare sight at road race events. I hope to get an event in soon, but have placed priority on fixing/upgrading some things on the car that I've ignored for a long time.
