An acquaintance at work stopped me and we were talking about our respective cars and venues. He fields a front engine nostalgia dragster.
He got hold of this dual fuel pump drive set up and wanted to take one side and convert it to drive his magneto. Local CAD/Machine shops wanted upwards of $400 for this one off adaptor.
He went to www.emachineshop.com , built the bracket on line and submitted for bids. It was under $200 ...
So, I'm skeptical ... but he swears by this place and has had numerous pipeces built by them since.
Thoughts?

Wow! My dream-come-true! I probably will send them a few projects.
The main limitation may be the loose nut behind the wheel. Even for the engineers among us, "structural properties of materials" is a fairly specialized field. Other than Jon, UE Jason, and perhaps Yang Hu, most of us should use caution when designing stressed parts, especially for anything that could cause an accident on failure. I would err on the side of overdesign and be careful to radius the stressed corners, etc.

I am going to be using these guys for a couple of things I came up with for our cars. Just minor stuff though.

I've read at corner-carvers of people using emachineshop.com, and I've downloaded the software to play with. The only drawback that I've ever read about was the lead time of manufacturing, but I'm pretty sure you will run into that no matter where you get fab work done.

Yea I downloaded the software, and the pricing seems reasonable. I have a RR buddy contemplating duplicating the Porsche F-body brake bracket, to run 996 front brakes. He was worried that the time required to measure the part accurately would be hard with the tools I had (he doesn't have his own caliper, and mine is just an old slider style...). Before he gets going I should interject he should get some better way of measuring the size. Maybe that would be something interesting that would fit many planned applications. I haven't given it enough time myself, but something tells me if the physics are possible it should be reasonable right?
