Full Version: Stock 4th gen seat heigh adjustment out of whack...

I'm using the stock seats out of my 99 parts car for my 97 street/track car. It's a 6 way adjustable seat. For some reason it sits way high in its lowest position. Now something odd is the rear switch that controls the height of the rear of the seat works in reverse. Up is down, down is up.

To my untrained eye, I don't see anything that jumps out at me.

That last pic is in the full up position.

Any ideas? I'm thinking someone took it apart and didn't put it back together correctly.

If you are willing to give up power, you can use the short legs from the bracket you have and get a passenger bracket, drill the rivets out of the legs on it and weld on the driver side shorties. You only have to do it on the rear and it will give you an inch or so drop. Since it is on the back, it keeps you a little more put. If you want to tweak it you can put a couple washers in the even it out.

I don't want to do that because I know something is wrong with this one.l causing it to sit very high. I used to have stock seats and they sat low enough for me.

Thanks,

Any ideas what could be the problem? I'm going to take it apart tomorrow. I'd like to have something to look for.

Thanks

Anyone?

Two things. First of all, it all looks stock. 2nd, I can't figure out how the rear heigh adjuster is backwards. All three motors have the same 1998 date on them and the wiring looks untouched.

My car was a 97 with leather seats. They sat nice and low. Are the fabric seats different? I can't imagine they are.

I switched the wires coming out of the switch assembly and that fixed the reversed rear height adjustment.

So it all looks like it's all stock. Idk, maybe it's just how it is.

Does anyone know if there are any differences between cloth/leather/lt1/ls1/manual/electric seats?

Any help will be appreciated.

The cloth/manual seats in a friends 2002 Camaro seemed to sit a noticeable amount higher than the power/leather seats in my 2002. Unscientific, but it's the only data point I have.

My '94 power seat bracket sat the seat significantly higher than the manual seat bracket I swapped in.

Haha. I love that your answers were completely opposite.

Well maybe I just need to get used to it. I feel better knowing that it was just two wires that were backwards causing down be up instead of a mechanical issue. Maybe it sits a little higher than my old leather seats. That and the sun visors are sagging. That probably makes it seem worse than it really is.

Thanks guys.
