Full Version: Baffled Fuel Tank

Has anyone added baffles, or found a baffled fuel tank to prevent fuel starvation, especially below 1/2 tank? The last time I was at the track (last year), I experienced fuel starvation several times.

Wondered how hard it would be to cure this, especially since I'll have to replace my fuel pump soon.

I know the third gen 1LE came with a baffled tank, not sure about the 4th gens. To avoid fuel starvation just top off after every session.

All the 90-92 Cars got baffled tanks. I wish i had a picture of when i had mine out. but it is very diffrent looking than the 82-89 tanks. FWIW, The only time i have had a starvation problem, was when I was down to practicly vapor.

Interesting fact John, thanks!

99+ cars have a better tank design (1998 didn't get the good tank). We would make sure we had only 5 gallons in the tank when we qualify. Thats about 6-7laps at most tracks.

Not sure how the update would work unsure.gif

Not the 3 I've driven - 2 '91's and a '92 all starved for gas at less than 3/4 tank...either that or they DID get them, but they don't help!

That is interesting. what trim level, and engine package were those cars? every bit of information i have found, says that the new cars all had baffled tanks. and since my bare bones RS with TBI from 90 had one, I figured anything else would have also.
