Anyone here a Scca member? If so, how do you like it? I'm thinking about starting my membership next spring.

Me!

Going on 24 years. Great organization, but if you don't do a zillion things within the club, it's kinda wasted money (as are most hobbies if you overthink them). Back when time and money allowed me to run about two National events a year and 15-20 local autocrosses, it was genius. With three kids and a stay-at-home wife/mom, I ran less than 6 events in 2017 (not counting instructing I do to generate some extra coin)... Kinda hard to justify membership if you can't really use it to its fullest. sad.gif

Ditto what Honda said, you really need to be active for it to be worth it. I have a membership only because I’m required to to keep my comp license active.

Thanks for the replys guys! I think ill be a pretty active member so that should make it worth it then!

Most regions charge more for non-members than members for many events. For solo, and I guess other events, one has to be a 'member' to run, so if you don't have an annual membership, you have to purchase a temporary 'weekend' membership, which costs $15 per weekend. You do get your annual membership discounted for up to two weekend membership fees, but you have to mention it when you join. Make more than 4 events a year, and you've paid for an annual membership.

My wife and I have been members for probably almost as long as we've been married (23 years). There are family memberships that lets you get the kiddos involved at a discount, if they're into that kind of thing.

Just wanted to add that the weekend membership surcharge is a national requirement by the SCCA's Risk Management Dept. This provides limited coverage for your participation in Solo and PDX events. (You don't see it, but part of your Track Night in America fee goes to weekend membership also.) I don't do Rally Cross, but I would imagine they have a weekend membership program too.

Yep. We haven't done anything but autocross for decades. I think the last rally we participated in was in the late 90's, so we don't know how the registration for such an event works, but I suspect there's a weekend membership fee there, too.

I can't believe no one has mentioned SportsCar magazine or the cool calendar yet!

Actually, I love getting the magazine. It’s well produced and it’s nice to actually read something not on a computer for a change.

Indeed, although there are some issues I just scan and recycle. I LOVED it when they included the Fastrack in the magazine, and feel they've really done a dis-service to the membership when they cut it, but they do, on occasion, have some interesting articles.

The last issue, when they compared a new Camaro to the VerMulm Camaro was a waste of ink, though, IMHO. Two really cool cars, and, oh, 'they drive different'?!? WTF?

Hahaha that was the lamest article I’ve ever read. Someone needs to be fired for letting that one go to press.

I ran 2 SCCA events this year and never bothered to get membership... next year I will need to check how many events I will run and get it if there is a savings...

Robert, i’d Think that about 3, you are break even. At 4, you should go ahead and sign up. With membership, and a notarized waiver submitted to the SCCA, can essentially get a pass through the waiver line directly to the registration line. Of course at the Police Academy, you’ll still have to sign the Houston waiver, but it is one less thing to have to wait for at morning registration.

Flash the membership card, and get a wrist band. I think my wife and I may try that at next renewal.
Jerry01Ws6
It definitely sounds like the membership has many benefits. I mean, a sweet magazine! That's worth the money alone! Lmao! I plan on running the car as much as possible once I do the finishing touches to the car next spring. Its been a long time coming and can't wait to start getting seat time. Anyone here from the Pennsylvania area? More specifically Pittsburgh area?

Pittrace is good even though it has close to zero grip

I'm in the State College area, so maybe a 3 hour drive for you. We've got a decent airstrip for auto crossing. Would love to have another f body come for some competition/friendship. We do a 2 day "cone killer" event, but all our airport courses are pretty nice. FAST. www.scca-cpr.com

Rob, I think you do it when joining online. You may have to call the home office and talk to someone in membership, though. If you need more info, let me know, and I'll dig deeper. Our Waiver Chief, Lynn, knows the procedure, so you can ask her when you come sign the waivers.
