So i got tired of all the key marks and various damage so i started repairing and prepping everything for paint. Just wanted to share the journey with you guys. Ill post more photos as i progress more torward paint. Here are some photos of where ive got so far.

Not much nicer than fresh paint. Prep is EVERYTHING.

Are you sanding just the CC, 400-600?
What are you pointing at?

The picture of me pointing is the "bubbling" on the sail panel that is a common problem on the 98-02 fbody. There really isn't any way to fix it other than replace the panel. Since I can't do that right now I'm just going to bandaid it for now.

Almost every panel had some sort of damage on it. Depending on the extent of the damage I either stripped it to bare metal(or in most cases with this car, plastic) with a stripper wheel, then feathered the paint and did the repair, then primer. If it was just a rock chip or a spot where I was keyed, I feathered it out with 150 or 180, did some "mud work", then primed it. I block the primer with 320. Then when I'm prepping that and the car for paint I will use 500. I imagine some of that may be confusing. If you have questions I can try to clarify haha

I was just wondering if the CC could just be sanded on a car with no body damage. My '95 just has "road wear" I call it. Plenty of scratches and tree sap but nothing deep. No mud needed. Could I sand the entire car and just re-clear, or would paint be required once I'm that far?
Obviously I'm not a paint/body guy.

It is possible to just scuff and reclear. But on cars as old as ours most likely it will need color and clear. But I suppose it depends on the condition of the paint. Like if it was garaged all its life compared to being daily driven all year long since day one.

How are you planning on band-aiding the bubbles ? Some sort of sealer ? Mine have gotten really bad in the last year ('02 Hardtop Z)

Honestly dave, all I did is just did a skim coat of mud over the whole panel, I believe I have a picture of it. That's all I could think to try that could hold back the adhesive until I replace the panel itself. I don't know if it'll work or not. If I get a couple years out of it ill be happy. But who knows i could get 10 years out of it. Guess only time will tell haha

Still have passenger mirror, rockers, and some buffing to do. and i think im going to paint the wheels as well until i can replace them with the ones i want. i think she turned out great!!!

What color is that?

I was going ask the same thing. It looks like a metallic charcoal; certainly not a factory color.

2 years ago I got the 6LE Designs sail panel to fix my bubbles. It still took some work for the shop I took it to, to peel the old one off and put the new one on. Since then I can say that the body shop could have put another couple hours in laying down some more filler on it - there are some areas where I can see some cross hatch marks, like fiberglass high spots (or something). It was a nice piece but not 100% factory perfect. I'm certainly satisfied with it as an AX car mostly, but from 6 inches you can see some things that aren't perfect. It's 1000x better than my old panel with all its weeping and drippy marks.

Thanks guys!!! The color is a Gm color, color code G7Q. Its known as Watkins Glen Gray, Phantom Gray, Nightfall Gray and Son of A Gun Gray and probably a couple more throughout the years haha

Yea she busted her ass prepping everything for paint and buffing every panel after it was painted. She probably worked harder than I did repairing everything lmao

Oh and as far as my "bandaid" on the sail panel. It was a waste, it bubbled as soon as it came out of the booth. Im assuming from being baked. Its not as bad as it was but the worst area in the center came back.

Watkins Glen is a nice color on the Corvette. But now you need that vibrant blue interior to match!

I totally would have considered it if I had kept a full interior haha

So i painted the wheels and buttoned her all up. All thats left now is the passenger seat install and i need to replace the power steering pump and the rack and pinion. Enjoy!
