Full Version: I decided I just want to do more driving and do less wrenching.

This is the year where I decided I'd had enough. The Trans Am is going up and down on the jack stands more than it goes back and forth.

So I am replacing it with a 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 /M7 that I hope to take to some autocrosses and track days.

Rather than spend more thousands of dollars replacing things like engines, progressively bigger brakes, and having a car that only *I* can work on, I thought I'd rather spend the money on tires and brake pads.

..and have a car that my wife will actually enjoy sitting in.
She hasn't ridden in the Trans Am but maybe three or four times in the last fifteen years.

I figure, I'll fix the fuel pump, take the Trans Am into a shop for a fresh dyno tune, and then put it up for sale. It's had thirty years of my love and attention so it'll be hard to part with it, but man, this Corvette sure does ease the sting! Tell-you-what...(!)

Based an everything but the last 2 words of your title I thought this was going to be a Trackbird post!

Good luck with the car... and selling the 3rd gen.

I was reading it and thinking "I didn't post that". smile.gif

Nice looking toy....how much for the third gen? (my wife would shoot me). lol.

What do you think of the Corvette so far?

Well, when I saw the 'less wrenching' bit, I knew it wasn't a Kevin post. 2thumbs.gif

I DO like the C7s, I also like the 6th Gen Camaro, and have a friend who LOVES his ZL1 1LE. I just can't get past the 'silver box' on the new cars, though. When the HVAC or radio goes out, you're done, since EVERYTHING goes through that part of the car. Seems I close my eyes and cross my fingers every time I start the Caprice! It's also the ONLY thing holding me back from replacing our '02 2500HD.

I wouldn't own a red car, but that's just me. That Vette sure is pretty to look at!!! You dun good there, sir!
SuperMacGuy
Very good choice! I too believe in "more fun less tinker" and a C7 is even a huge step up in performance also.

As others say, the complete computerization of the whole car also gives me pause. But then again soon all new cars will be electric or hybrid so there's no escaping it I guess.

Have fun this summer!

Nice! Same reason I sold my 4th gen. Just get in and go vs tinkering to meet my desires

You are smarter than I am. Still finishing up this M29/Fast 102 setup and I leave to codrive a friends C7 GS at a Prosolo tomorrow. Then another in two weeks. Then the car needs to be at a tour two weeks after that. I also need to do a valve adjustment, change all the fluids, and put the new exhaust on the E46 M3 to get it back on the road.

And I'm probably buying an RX8 with a hurt motor tomorrow because reasons...

I remember gaining lots of good info on your TransAm build(s) back in the day on Thirdgen.ORG, IF fact it's how I ended up with a set of ROH ZS's !

Years ago I had the idea of selling my '82 Z28 and '02 Z28 and getting a C5 Z06, instead I gained a '78 Z28 MAJOR restoration project, and a '87 Formula 350 (it needs to go on eBay SOON!) ... I wish I would have executed, sometimes my less wrenching ideas end up working the best, like when I decided to switch from a Banshee to a Raptor 700, haven't had to repair a 4 wheeler since ! (other than additions)

I think about upgrading too. The vettes are still out of my price range (C6 or C7) and I have to drive a 5th or 6th gen more to see if I like it. So far everyone is right you can't see shit out of them lol. She does look good though!

Try a 6th Gen ZL1 1LE with that wing on the back. You just put it in reverse and press your head against the headrest waiting for the collision. But they go like stink and make GLORIOUS supercharger and V8 sounds!!!

Nice upgrade! I really like the c7 (and c6 and c5 and...) but can't spend the dough. If I did I would probably be afraid to flog it like I do my 4th gen. Also there is a unique factor too, I always get a couple people giving compliments on my car at events, especially after im passing gt350s and similar (depending on the run group on any given day of course!) and if i was in a Vette nobody would even care, it's just expected

I picked up a 2014 1SS back in December as my new daily driver with the intention of using it as an interim, autocross only, car until I get off my ass and get the Trans Am back on the road. Need to go through the motor and fix some bent suspension so I'm not looking forward to it and have been avoiding it. I can see where this is going to wind up for me as I did my first autocross last month in it with my second this coming Sunday and then Sebring with NASA the following week on April 19th & 20th. I took virtually the same picture of the two cars a couple of weeks ago so I can relate to this post on numerous levels.

Wow, look at the size of that thing compared to the 94!!! blink.gif

RULE I learned from owning an RZ350 which is the streetbike version of the Banshee: dirt stuff should not have two carburetors, two cylinders, two pipes and all that. That's why dune people love Banshees but they drive everyone else nuts.
landstuhltaylor
And nothing should ever have four carbs. My happiest day in all of motorcycling was getting rid of my carbed I4. Much happier now with the very reliable fuel injected Triumph triple. It's enabled all my other stupidity

Hey dude....let us know when you put your bird up for sale. I'm curious as to how much you might sell it for....
