Jeeze what a good idea

I decided to pound on my rear fender lip on the driver side. Thinking that like JonA I could get a small flare going withouth jacking up the paint.....Um NO..

Instead I got a BUNCH of really nice cracks. So naturally I thought shit, how much will this cost/how mad will Meranda be.

To make matters worse that side has BODY FILLER around the wheel opening. Naturally that was a BIG


BUT, on the bright side, I now have a pretty good looking flare on the drivers side. Just have to do the other side now.

AND my father and I will do the body work, because like usual the old timers know their shit. And he thinks we can match up the color to a "won't even notice it uless your looking for it" level.

Do you usually have a co-driver to heat those fat mothers up? I'm interested in hearing how it goes.

Yep I do have a co-driver. My wife.

At a Pro heating them up won't be a big deal becuase of a burn out box.

Plus with the wheels being used (17x11) the tire will help to heat itelf, at least more than if it were on a 17x12.

The eventual plan is to add some 17x11.5's for 315's up front, or 18x11's with 315 18's.

but body work is not too hard....just time consuming.....and if your paint is stock....you should be able to match it close.....

Yeah I don't think it will be to bad.

In fact the side I'm on now is close to beign done with the body work. Maybe another hour or two.

My fathers going to come and see it tonight.


The good luck I need is in the other side turning out OK too.

Did you not take a razor knife and score the paint at a seam or crease?

This keeps the paint from cracking in visible areas ...

Or did you do more than just roll the inner lip?

In Jon's thread about fitting the 315s in the front, he made his front "flares" a good bit larger. It wasn't just rolling the fender lips. Since we own Trans Ams we just don't have a problem.

If I recall the pictures correctly, Jon wasn't exactly concerned about "jacking up the paint".

I don't think the knife would have helped much if the fender already had bondo in it.

Oh trust me scoring the paint wouldn't have helped.

I really think the problem was the filler. Funny thing is I peeled back the inner fender and can't see where, on the back side of the outer fender, there has been any damage.

If my father is right, and the paint can look good, I think it will turn out great. I'll have to get a digital camera and post some pictures. Apparently I need to post pictures of the adjustable rear bar to, that way it will sell.

Dang Lonnie. I'd like to see pictures of that. That's a lot more than I've seen before.
