I started with my new aluminum jack right on the driveway. I shimmed the jackstand with a 1/4" steel plate to level them out some. Then I stuck another plate under the front wheel of the jack so it can roll backwards when the weight transfers to the jackstands and let the axle hang. No dice, so lowered the car and lifted it with my old standby undersized carry along floor jack. Same story

So now I'm getting pissed since I want the weight off of the rear end so the torque arm doesn't fight me when I disconnect the front end. After way too much time I gave up and stuck the jackstands between the sway bar and LCA mounts on the rear end. Of course I lost a few inches of room under the car this way... but I had to get it done.
I've done this before with my small jack and NEVER had any problems. Its almost like the jack was stuck and wouldn't roll back once the frame hit the jackstands, and the arc of the jacks were still pushing the car forward instead of rolling backwards.
What was I doing wrong
