Steve,

It appears that there were custom valved De-Carbon shocks used for a few years (like 93-95-ish), or that is the info I've seen on several occasions (however, I have no part numbers to verify that as a fact).

Yes, the early 1LEs did come with the De-Carbons. I don't have the part #s either. In fact when I ordered my '96 SS in July of '95 as a 1LE, the De-Carbons were still listed on the build sheet. When they canceled that order in December they gave some lame excuse about the 1LE suspension not being properly "calibrated" for the 17X9 SS wheel/tire combo. I then opted for the SS with the level I suspension over the 1LE...shouldda gone the other way especially once I found they were delivered with the DAs. Of course then I'd still be in FS not SM :-)

Ok, I have two questions about these shocks:

A) Does anyone know what is the difference between the 1LE deCarbons and the stock deCarbons were? and:

2) I read somewhere, and I can't for the life of me remember where, that shocks stored on there sides were failing because of seals dried up and were blowing out or something like that. Since these have been sitting for about eight to ten years, do you think are they worth taking a $109.00 chance on??

Thanks in advance.

The 1LE decarbons were valved more stiffly.

The fronts look like the stock struts, but the rear shocks are much larger in diameter.

The front springs are not correct, from them gryhead.

My 98 SS came with the upgraded DeCarbons. The rears are almost twice as fat then the regular DeCarbons.
