SCCA TO DISCONTINUE PRORALLY, CLUBRALLY PROGRAMS IN 2005



TOPEKA, Kan. (Oct. 5, 2004) - Sports Car Club of America's Board of Directors voted Monday to discontinue the sanction of its current stage-based rally format, including the ProRally and ClubRally Championships, beginning January 1, 2005 due to increasing risk exposure.



"This was a difficult and unfortunate decision to make," SCCA Board of Directors Chairman Gary Pitts said. "However, from an insurance standpoint, the stage rally format has gotten to the point where it puts the entire Club, its activities and entities under an undue risk."



"We have many SCCA members whose interests lie in rally," SCCA President and CEO Steve Johnson said. "It is my intent to allow these members the opportunity to rally in the future and continue to access the sport. I am confident we can accomplish this task.



"We are in negotiations to transition SCCA's elements of the stage-based rally activity to Rally America, a longtime partner and participant in the sport of rally."



Unaffected by the decision are SCCA's RallyCross and RoadRally programs.



SCCA began its special stage-format ProRally Championship in 1973. Since then, the ProRally Championship Presented by Hot Wheels has been regarded as the top domestic rally series. The 2004 Championship has one round remaining, Lake Superior ProRally (LSPR), which will run as scheduled Oct. 22 in Houghton, Mich.

And yet they are persuing drifting.





NASA should jump at this oppurtunity.

It's sad that the U.S. has become what it has. It's really not the SCCAs fault that there are so many people here so ready to sue over anything. Racing is a dangerous sport, plain and simple. If spectators and officials can't figure out what is an acceptable level of risk for them and live by it,,, then we will continue to lose areas of the sport.

The situation that lead to this {I think I'm thinking of the correct incident} was a terrible thing. But the same sort of thing happens in other countries were rally events are held. The big difference is that other countries seem to think of it as a accident that can and will happen unless you chose not to partipate in that sport, either as a driver, spectator or an official. The other countries seem to think that people should be responsible for there decisions, not protected from them.

That's exactly what I thought when I read that. How in the heck can they adopt drifting and ditch rally?!?!?!

My SCCA membership is expiring soon and it's so tempting to let it expire right now.

It was a simple matter of insurance and money.

I contacted someone who, basically is in charge of grissom. And to run a non SCCA sanctioned event insurance rates were UNBELEIVABLE. Something like $10,000 per day. Or something rediculas.


The main thing SCCA brings to you, is quanity based insurance rates.


In WRC there is enough money pumped into the system that they could give to shits about the cost of any insurance.

Drifting is kinda dumb and belongs in the same category as car shows, but if the SCCA makes money from it. Everyone benefits.
