www.hansdevice.com - very easy to order. They need your seat angle, then your neck size. Turns out the bigger your neck is the more expensive it gets. Most were $865. The size I needed was only available in carbon fiber for $865, dang! I did not feel comfortable installing the anchor points on my helmet, had them do it for free. I did call them to ask a few questions, turns out most forget about it on about the second lap of using it. They said if you have previously broken your collarbone you may have some discomfort, also if you are one of those Arnold Governator musclebound types!

I have always wanted Christine to get safety devices before performance devices. After the deaths at Thill Christine has agreed to get a HANS before she runs any more AI races. It really is a lot of money, but worth every cent if it comes in handy just once.

On another note, aren't you building a 4th gen for CMC? If so, how's it coming along?

Excellent Jules. If I start getting on track (and get a roll bar installed), I'm probably going to look at one of those as being "required".

I wonder if they're up for a group purchase?

Anyone ever ask when purchasing it?

Jason, you are a good influence on Christine. Safety has always got to get your $ first. I was going to wait another event (CMC has another Thunderhill after Sears coming up), however, just could not rationalize waiting to get it anymore. Of course the last year or so has influenced my decision. I figured I owed it to myself and my family to take every precaution possible. I understand about the steep entry price, however, the HANS is a permanent device. Belt systems have to be replaced periodically as does anything with webbing, driving up your long term costs.

The 4th gen CMC is just getting going...I am not running it until 2006, going to take my time. It will be very well sorted before it competes in CMC! I will start posting photos on my website when the project gets serious this winter. So far we have the T2R, 3:73s and Moser axles.

Randy, a 20" neck! blink.gif Mine is a mere 13"! wink.gif

Trackbird, this is a great driver mod as we are finding out, glad so many of you are excited about it. As far as GPs, I seriously doubt it. Demand is very high for it, giving the maker little incentive to do a GP. You could always ask tho!

My neck is only a 19.5 as I remember. I'm guessing Randy is rather stout (I'm a "large medium" size). I had to buy the largest helmet Bell makes.
