Crank up your speakers real loud.... This is what a 427 with 540 na hp sounds like. Listen to the idle at the end. It's a Lingenfelter engine.

...I'll take it.....

I just don't have the 12k that Lingenfelter would charge me.... ph34r.gif

$12K? Oh, it would cost you more than that in the end.
rmackintosh
...yeah...after I typed that I thought....that was probably the cost of the dissassembled short block!

I think an LS1, 383 from them is an 8k shortblock. I was looking the other day.

How would you like your 427?

Yikes!

I bought my Darton block for $2,400 from Speed Inc. After that you can get a full rotating assembly (Eagle crank, Eagle rods, Diamond pistons/rings, bearings) all balanced from APE for $2,500 ish. Take all of that to your favorite local machine shop, have the block bored, everything assembled for $300-$500 ish, slap in your favorite cam for $400ish and bam you have your 427 shortblock for a little under $6,000.

Adding a great set of heads puts you closer to $8,000 like Randy guessed.

The only only people who I see go with Lingenfelter are wealthy individuals who like to drop off the car with their keys and pick it up a few weeks later.

I wish I could write that check. They are not far from Columbus, OH. Getting there is easy, sending the required sacks of cash to pick up the car is the difficult part.

I was guessing GM was going to ask about 10-11k for the 05 z06 crate motor. The point buying an assembled [6.4 - 7 liter Al engine] is going to be much more affordable.

I like thousands of others are ready for the news on Jan 5 2005. That is the date GM officially releases the news for the new z06.

The rumor is the z06 will be a 7l [but at least a 6.4l]. If the dry sump rumor is true, then I am not so certain how it we could retrofit the GM crate motor into an F-body.

The motor in the video does not sound so streetable. wink.gif

Well, close enough!!!
NataSS Inc
That thing sounds like my car.

I just cant believe how fast it "snapped to" when the guy planted the throttle. Makes me THINK that it might be bottle fed. N/A motors don't normally come "alive" like that. Even the larger cube LS1's.

Take a look at the SLP prices for big stroke short blocks and rotating assemblies.

But that's an iron block.

I've always been impressed that you can buy an engine with 500-800 hp and get a two year 24,000 mile warranty. Yes, you pay the big bucks but like someone else said here, you drop off your car, and when you come back, you have a totally different car. You know exactly what you're getting, no surprises. *And* you know it's done right.

Can you do it cheaper? Absolutely. And most people up here would. But for some of the rich people like me (yes, I am dreaming... rolleyes.gif ), I wouldn't mind letting the Lingenfelter people have my car anytime they'd like it. Hell, I'm still waiting for Tuner Transformation to call... tongue.gif

I just read this from the link the Jon posted about intake manifolds.... go figure. This is a quote from a Lingenfelter owner...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
...I'm slightly biased because I have one of their engines, but I've raced the crap out of the car for 10 years and have never even had the valve covers off..Ran an 11.90 last weekend at 117 mph on radials with 3.42s...Not bad for a ten year old motor...My car is going back in March for a freshening and this conversion. I'll let everyone know what happens..
7L is not a rumor. It's been a done deal for over a year now. I've only heard dry sump from 2 people so far so I won't say it's a done deal, but it makes sense.
