The GTO is GM's attempt to have a cheap chassis already developed in Autstralia mainly, and put in the LS1 engine. If you think about it, the car has very similar styling to a newer Mustang and will appeal to a larger market than the F body ever did.

GM's doing a few things right nowadays. For instance, the C6 Corvette and the Cadillac XLR are a great example of using a common chassis to build 2 niche market cars. The CTS-V uses an existing chassis, existing engine, and makes another niche market car. I think they've learned their lesson from the F body.

What I laugh about though is GM's overall proliferation of engines. In their V8s they have a 4.6, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7, 6.0 (2 of them differing by only 20 HP for trucks only), and another 6.0 for Corvettes. Then there's a 8.1 for trucks. Jeez.

In case you hadn't heard Toyota was no. 2 in global sales very recently. That's right. They've sold more than even Ford globally. GM is next. How many V8 engines does Toyota have in the US? Oh yeh, there's a 4.7L for trucks and a 4.3L for Lexus. That's it.
