Ok, I have a friend that has an '89 GTA 350 L98 WS6 auto w/ t-tops.
the engine was rebuilt only a few thousand miles ago. typical treatment w/ budget kit including cast pistons. Engine and drive train work great. The interior, well, its very typical 3rd gen. I get into it and think 'crap! these things were made so poorly'. Body is straight, just missing rear wing. T-tops rattle and leak a bit. Anyway, this guy just bought a Z06 so he's offered me his L98 for $800. Yes, $800 running and driving L98 (registered too). How can I pass that up? I mean I could drive it. I could autocross it. No question I could get my $800 back if I sold later. I definately could use the engine, TPI, WS6 springs, WS6 front swaybar, WS6 steering box and swap those parts into my [stock] Monte SS. Part out the rest. Or maybe find a hardtop 5spd 305 IROC/Z28 w/ bad engine and swap in the TPI L98 and WS6 suspension parts for a fun track/autox car.
How can I resist?
I have one more spot in the driveway.......
but collecting cars isn't a priority. I'm not hurting for money either.
decisions. decisions.
for $800 its a no brainer..... but I still can't decide!!!!!

if you pass on this car, i bet there are at least 3 people here in DFW that will take it. that includes myself.

I sold my 88 L98 IROC for $5,200 in June of 2002. This was a 100,000 mile original engine car with no rust decent interior, new tranny (ya shouldn't open track automatics), Konis, rattling doors and t-tops. $800 is a steal. Get it before someone else does.

God, I miss that car.

well, I really shouldn't be piling on the bowties in my driveway. (this poncho is a bowtie!) But I went ahead and made a verbal deal for $800. It has a new battery and will be inspected and tagged this month. I'll find a use for it......
heck, I'm actually the guy that spun the bearing in the original motor in the 1st place. Well, I was auto-xing it and the owner forgot to check the oil level. Yeah, less than 2 qrts + autox = spun bearing.

I need a new house w/ a GIANT shop!

Sounds like its time to update the sig. And everyone is right, you would be a fool to pass up a deal like that. cool.gif

Good deal! I'd love to have a 3rd gen track whore.

For $800 I am seriously interested.

GTA's and Formula's have the same suspension as the same year 1LE car.

$800 is a steal, IMO, for a fully functioning TPI thirdgen. Take a look at the classifieds on thirdgen.org and see how much people are trying to get for their cars. rolleyes.gif (Yeah, I advertised mine for a high price when I was thinking of selling last year, but it was based on similar ads. wink.gif) You could probably sell it for at least 3-4 times what you paid for it.

In the latest Autotrader here, there was somebody selling a '92 Camaro RS for $8,000! blink.gif Stock. Low miles for a '92, but it wasn't like it was a B4C or something that might be worthy of that price.

Anybody see the $25K thirdgen 1LE's that pop up on eBay occasionally? smile.gif

Morgan, to give you an idea how much of a great deal that is, I would trade you my car for that 3rd gen and $4,000. My car has $18,000+ into it. But if someone ever approaches me with that kinda deal it's as good as gone.

I want a 3rd gen period. Just can't afford another car. Currently kicking myself in the rear for not buying a 3rd gen in the first place!!

BTW if you strip all the parts, i'd be interested in the rest of the car.
y5e06
uh, Lonnie. Do you have pics and dyno graph of your car?...... ph34r.gif
yes, its a good deal. *even* I realize that. However, the car isn't perfect by any means. I must say though, if it were a hardtop w/ 5spd I would barely be able to contain myself! I'm not an automatic T-top fan, but there is a lot of potential for a 350 L98 w/ 700R4! Not to mention the nice stiff WS6 suspension & steering parts.

oh, by the way. This is a Texas car... as in NO RUST! Just thought you northerners would like to know that!!!!
ESPCamaro
Never dynoed it.

There are pictures on the net that I could send. I don't take any myself.

FWIW I need to talk to Sam and see what it would take to get a 3rd gen into ESP trim. Since like I said, if the deal fell in my lap, I'd probably take it.

Yeah that Texas car no rust thing would be nice. Luckily NO rust on my car either. Except one small spot under the carpet, under tha passenger seat. It's about the size of a golf ball maybe bigger. But I figure some POR 15 and epoxy paint will fix'er up.

Tell him you're strapped and can only scrape together $550.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm a lawyer and used to negotiating.

Man, if you have the cash, you'd be crazy not to be all over that. The parts alone are worth twice that at least. I say go for it.

If you don't want, I'll take it. Seriously, my wife would love a car like that to play with.

Yup, me too.

I tried to convince my wife that we needed another Cambird, with a gutted interior, full roll cage, and a child seat BOLTED down where the back seat used to be (we don't need no wimpy straps). It would make the ultimate armored baby carrier. I'd even be willing to upgrade the brakes and install wider tires to make it even SAFER for the kid.

So far she hasn't gone for it, but at $800 it would be a no-brainer wink.gif

Don't forget the safety benefits of increased power and torque. Avoidance of accidents when anticipated far enough in advance and allowing you to take appropriate avoidance steps.
