Full Version: Using a Lap Belt

I have some gift certificates from Summit to use. I know a few people around here have used a lap belt in conjunction with their stock belts. I'm doing this for autocross and trackdays with no roll bar.

Summit carries both RJS and Simpson lap belts. Any fit/use issues with either?

is it a lap belt or a torso belt? i actually haven't heard of people using a secondary lap belt with their stock seatbelts, but have heard good things about using a torso belt.

When I take my F'hawk to the track for instruction days, I use a supplementary lap belt. Uses the same bolts as the street belt and actually holds you in place.

I use the RJS latch and link lap belt from there. I used the factory bolt on the driver's side and a big 1/2" grade 8 bolt on the inboard/passenger side to secure it. Can't beat it for $33 or so (I think that's what I paid for mine). I use it in addition to my factory seat belt when I autocross.

I use a torso belt with my stock belts, at least until I get new seats. That's all you really need for autox or even most track days. If you're going to be running door to door get some real belts.

I use the stock belt along with the C-G Lock. It's a nice little piece that holds your bum securely in place whil allowing shoulders etc. to move. I may add a Torso strap to this arrangement, but unless I go to a roll bar/cage I'll be doing without a full lap/shoulder belt setup.

Here is where I got mine

One advantage of the 3" lap belt over the cg-lock is you have more area. It's a lot more comfortable than a stock belt (2" wide IIRC) because it distributes the force over larger area.
