Now that was pretty cool. More people need to remember just how fast that man was before he went to Ferrari. It isn't the car that is so fast, its him and his team put together that makes for something that is just increadible to witness in person.

i don't care if people say F1 is not racing. I am completely facinated at the speeds and the Gs and just the sheer capability of the cars and drivers. im am in complete awe of F1 cars. how people get stuck on nascar is beyond me, not while F1 exists

I do love the F1 cars and marvel at the ability of them to drive......but follow the leader is very far from door to door racing.

F1 is great to sleep too though. thumbup.gif

The problem with F1 is the downforce, take that away and we'd see a lot more passing. As it is right now (even with the new reduced aero rules) you can't get right on someone's tail as you'd loose all your front downforce making the car slower. Plus this crap of mandating every aspect of the car is just rediculous. Set aero rules to very minimum downforce, and then let the teams do whatever they want from there (turbo V6, V10, V8, active suspension, 4 wheels, 6 wheels, etc). That would really make for some interesting racing. Plus this new garbage of an engine having to last 2 weekends and only having two sets of tires for a weekend are rediculous. I love watching the engines go BOOM when the engine designers get it wrong.

On average, how many non pit related passes are made in an F1 race? Compare that to the average for a Nascar race.

Nothing against F1 really, but most of the competition occurs before the race even begins.

So many people get caught up on the idea that going around in circles is somehow easy, that they fail to even acknowledge that there are 43 cars out there, and for the most part they are all bumper to bumper, and door to door for pretty much the entire race.

In Nascar, it's about racing the other drivers, not about racing the track. THAT is what most Nascar fans enjoy.

Funny, most people around here watch it because its a good excuse to get drunk and watch cars crash biggrin.gif

I couldn't agree more. It's incredible to see film of guys in the 60's thowing and sliding those cars around corners. No wings. Imagine F1 without any wings at all. Like the worlds most high tech formula ford. That would be so cool to see.
The reality is that they need to do something to bring the cars closer together. I LOVE the high tech, but on race day I want to see guys going at it ON THE TRACK! To bad the tracks aren't a little wider.

Nascar vs F1 vs CART vs IRL vs ...
If it's got a motor in it and I got the time then it's cool. cool.gif
For the best of both worlds, (nascar & F1) the IRL is hard to beat right now. And that's the truth, like it or not.

If anyone has links to video of 60's F1 cars post'm up.

Jimmy Clark has always been a hero of mine.

That graff data is AWESOME. I love facts. Everyone should learn from that.

Not!

The IRL is like restrictor plate racing in NASCAR. The cars are underpowered and downforced to the point that just about anyone can race in them. There is no creativity allowed and the racing is artificial. The declining ratings are proof that the IRL doesn't work. (CART isn't doing any better, but at least they can turn right)

I'm not a NASCAR fan (not since DE passed away), but they are the most competetive series out there.

You want to see some people who can drive, check out the WRC on Speed TV. Those guys are nuts!!!

Back on topic - Schumacher is the best out there. The first two titles with Benetton (sp?) are proof of that. Ross Braun, Jean Todt, and Michael have built the current Ferrari dynasty - which I am enjoying to no end.

I agree with you. The IRL at TMS races are just as exciting as any race I have ever been too. Great side by side racing is what is exciting to watch.

I really think CART is more like what F1 used to be, and is one of the best actual racing series out there. Unfortunately, they've had a really hard time keeping their act together. Hopefully, with the new management they'll get back on track again. For a while, I was really hoping the Speed GT/Touring series would be the one to watch, but with the blatantly unfair favoritism in the rules (Cadillac, Audi, etc) I just wasn't that interested in it last season. WRC has got to be one of the most incredible series out there, but unfortunately they don't have full coverage of it.

I do absolutely enjoy WRC, but that's another case of driver vs. course. I'm not arguing that it shouldn't be, because the courses are tough enough all by themselves. If the drivers had to contend with the course AND other drivers the whole time, things would get ugly very fast. It'd still be interesting to see, though.
Formula WS6
WRX has different stages where the two drivers will race side by side on different courses sure its not door to door, but it givesyou a much better idea of just how hard these guys are driving. seeing them side by side puts the time differences into perspective big time

Actually, there was some really good racing in F1 last year. Unfortunately it was never for the top spot and is therefore easily overlooked.
