Just a thought since everyone seems to be really interested in putting their car on a diet maybe we should add a section for weight reduction

We've had a few threads about it. Someone could condense it into a post/sticky if they get bored. However, if enough people think it's a good idea, I'll build it. What do you guys thing?
Anyone else?
As for me, I'll try anything once (my CMC forum didn't work so well, so it left quickly).

A sticky would be cool.
I've been working on a suspension FAQ/essay for the suspension/chassis section, however with classes lately it's still going to be a while.

A sticky sounds good to me, but a dedicated forum would be nice because it would be easy to look up any weight reduction issue without having to search.

The problem with having a forum deditcated just to this, you'll get alot of bogus numbers.
For the most part that's not something you have to look out for here, but depending on the scale lbs can vary quite a bit.
Last summer, when I removed, or weighed a bunch of stuff, almost nothing matched what Brent Franker had on his site. I weighed everything on a fedex scale so I know it's accurate.
The best was all the work I did to remove the EGR to save 3.5lbs and only saved a litte over one lb.

You lost 3.5 lbs... it's just that 2.5 lbs of it was off youself by working soo hard to remove the EGR

Sticky and/or forum would be good. I know Jason S. is working on coming up with a list too, although I know he is busy with other things too.

i think sticky will suit better...
still the best one is to personally lose weight... it's a 2x win situation.

Somewhere on LS1tech there was a guy that litterally took apart most of his car just to weigh the parts. It was either that or he was putting a car on a SERIOUS diet. The list was about 2 pages long with each part and how much it weighed.
But I will say that I don't think we need a forum just for weight reduction. Biggest thing is bogus #'s. I have been told many times that all of the stuff behind the dash doesn amount to much. I don't know about them but I must have pulled close to or more than 50lbs of shit out from behind there. I never bothered weighing any of it since it all came out in little pieces. Dremel+box knife.

There you go... you just confirmed bogus numbers. I can tell you there isn't 500 lbs behind the dash.

Yeah, I got 14.5 for the passenger airbag and bracket.
Another 11lbs for the plastic stuff on the firewall and floorboard. I did the box cutter approach too, but I collected it all up and weighed it when I was done. That was everything I could reach with the dash in place. There might be another 5 lbs in the center section up high I couldn't get to.
If I left the bottom panels out (the ones that keep you from seeing the wires and stuff under the dash) it would be a few more lbs.
50 still sounds like a whole lot though, even if you include the airbag. (unless you are counting the radio, all hvac controls, all ductwork, etc.)

Last night 154 lbs, last season 184 lbs; I choose to lose my gut rather then the A/C. I still need to weight my pig at the next national event I go to and see where race weight is now that I've done some weight reduction to the car. I'm crossing my fingers that it comes up around 3400 lbs.

All of you guys are light-weights.
When I played HS football I was over 225 and could run a 4.8 40 ...
30 years later, I would be lucky to run a 4.8 10 ...

That's great! But you'll still be 400+ lbs away from Stompy...

I'm 238 I've been anywhere from 175 to 250 at my current height -6'. I'm currently doing weight watchers. I think it's by far the best diet out there. My father lost 175 (yes lost 175) lbs through it and has kept it all off. He's tried other stuff over the past 15 years and so have I. I just started WW, and I think it will be equally successful for me. It's not losing the weight it's keeping it off that matters.
