Bob Lutz has been moved to GMNA product development. Not sure if this is the good news or the bad news, but seems to underscore the severity of GM's situation.

Didn't he just put a "halt" to most product development? Oops..... nutkick.gif

If he is in charge of developement, I think it might be worse. GM has no development of late except for trucks and the C6.

He needs to be removed from the company while there is still a little of the company left.

Anyone have a Cliff's notes of what Lutz did wrong? I haven't been following this very much, but I thought he was benefitting GM. unsure.gif

He wasn't demoted. If anything, his move amounts to a promotion.

His new position puts him in charge of global product development. He was formerly head of North American product develpment.

Guys, please see my previous post about Lutz. No vehicle has been launched yet that he could play a part in from start to finish. You can't change the direction of GM by yourself in 3 years. Jeez. Think of this big snowball rolling down a mountain. Lutz steps out in front of it and is mowed down. He can either do that or ride along side it and at least take some chunks out of it so when it hits the city down below it does less damage. rolleyes.gif Now, when he can get to the top of the mountain and prevent the snowball from forming in the first place, then you're on to something.

It is not just GM here. Ford is offering early retirement to about 1000 white collar workers. If enough employees don't take them up on their offer they will almost certainly do layoffs. DCX is doing pretty well right now, but they're the exception of the Big 3 at the moment.
