Full Version: So what do you get for all that free advertising??

ESPCamaro
Have you considered how much free advertising you've given away?
And what do you get in return?

For instance we may buy something (say a set of wheels) and the wheels are great and service good. Why advertise for them for free? They did their job in giving you good service.

Do we now EXPECT sucky service? And in receiving good service are so surprised by it, that we sing the praises of a shop that did their damn job?

Lonnie,

I'm a little bit confused...... (like I walked in on the second half of a conversation wink.gif )

hmm... you must be talking about the Polo shirt I wore today... and the little tab that says Dockers on my chinos.

I'm a little lost in this thread too, but I have adopted a no-reverse-sponsorship policy. I toss all the stickers that come with products I buy.

I AM an amatuer, so my standards for what I can consider "sponsorship" are quite vague, but I gotta draw the line somewhere.
Crazy Canuck
I'm assuming (without making an ASS out of U and ME) that he probably went somewhere and got good service and they know about it.
And due to that, probably asked him to write a good word on them in public, or board or something... instead of asking for such things, they should be glad they offered great service and simply hope the word will get around... not forcing the word to go around.
That's what I think might have happened... but then again... it's imho, and I may be totally off. blink.gif

I have to admit, I am on the lookout for that special sticker to cover the hole in my rear bumper cover. It was a "gift" someone left for me at the courthouse while I was inside renewing my tags rant.gif

There's only going to be one, so I've got to find the sticker that will add the most speed wink.gif

I run Stranoparts stickers and Insane exhaust stickers along with every other sticker for contingancy and SCCA requirement stuff. I'll run stickers of companies that are good to me and/or do great work.

And I thank you for that (as well as the others who run my stickers). I also appreciate it greatly.

For the record, I don't really consider the "advertising" completely free. After all, I do spend a LOT of free time discussing options and often times talking people out of more expensive stuff if they don't need it.

And the best advertising is word-of-mouth, or referals. No ad in a forum, or in a magazine works as well.

I run one of Sam's stickers on my back window and FRRAX stickers (and Summit Point decals, it's a tradition). Otherwise, my car is sticker-free (can I run several stickers and be "Sticker free"?). I do have a pair of large envelopes full of contingency sized decals (and everything else) from almost anyone you can think of. I keep threatening to ebay the whole bag of them (some moron will pay entirely too much money for a collection of adhesive horsepower like I have at home).

I WOULD run stranoparts stickers if I had them.. (hint hint).

But seriously, I ONLY put stickers on my car for stuff that is IN my car. I am not a fan of advertising for somebody unless they have treated me well in my racing experiences. (ie, Strano!)

I understand your initial point Karen, but I don't mind running stickers if I run the products. As far as the BIG Quarter panel 2 foot tall and 2 foot high sticker, i am reserving that for the first person to sign up for my $600 annual sponsorship package...

So, little stickers, no problem. BIG DECALS.. i need a little cash for a set of tires. smile.gif

Wasn't referring to you.

In fact other than a redline sticker, SUNOCO race fuels, and FRRAX.com stickers, yours is the only bussiness sticker that (that isn't required)

Your case is different. If I owned a Bimmer, Bob's shop would be different too (which must be the reason why his customers run huge decals).

In a very few instances "help" goes beyond the sale...

If someone sees my car it will look like it has stickers everywhere....

Let's see....

TireRack sticker on windsheild. Wire wheel SCCA sticker on front hood. SCCA road to Topeka stickers 1 per side. SCCA Solo events stickers 1 per side. Subaru Cendiv stickers 1 per side. National Tour stickers 1/side, 74 ESP on both sides, Other than the National Tour stickers ALL of those are required stickers.

Also have a stranoparts.com, redline oils, Sunoco, Honest Charlies speed shop stickers, and 3 Southern Culture On The Skids stickers on the rear window
patred
I only run stickers if somebody has

1) Given me free stuff
2) Given me stuff at a discount
3) Offered free setup advice (Hi Sam smile.gif )

Not counting contingency and "series sponsor" stickers, of course, since they sorta fall under Nos. 1 & 2. If it wasn't for Tirerack and other SCCA sponsors, I would probably have to pay more $$$ for entry fees.

Pat

P.S. Still trying to figure out why I have "Powered by Guinness" stickers. biggrin.gif
35th_Anniversary_AS_Camaro_SS
I have a Sunoco Race Fuels one too...

I also ran Koni, Bilstein on my SS.

My favorite sticker is the US flag though. beerchug.gif

I left all the stickers on the SS since it's arrest me red anyways. I peeled off the tirerack shit from the Z06 though and took off all the vinyl even in between the Atlanta events b/c I made special effort to make the car ultrastealthy - !DRL mod.

cops can't pull over what they can't see.

I agree the Kumho hood sticker is too damned big. But the last laugh is on them when I get enough drivers for a ASP class in the Pro Solos and we can rob them of some of their money.

You either have to specifically tell Sam you want some when you order something or he'll give you some at a National Tour or Pro Solo if he's in attendance.
He should really send them out with every order. I'd pass them onto another f-body guy for him if I already had a pair for my car.

Man, my legend is growing (I split one of the last topics Eugenio and I thoroughly hijacked, the first step is admitting that you have a problem).

I do have FRRAX stickers left. I have 3 x 10" in Red, Blue, Metallic grey (not quite silver?), black, and white. I also have a few of the large 24" wide (great for enclosed trailers, or the back window of trucks) 3 color frrax logos (black, red, blue).

Just send a PM with what you need.

I don't send stickers out with all orders for a pretty simple reason. Ironically one that kind of started the thread.

I don't like throwing money away, and my stickers are a few bucks each. And *ahem* even some of you who have them don't run them. smile.gif

If you ask, I'll get you some. Though all I have right now are white stickers. Just send me you addresses and I'll get you some.

BTW, in Pat's case. I fulfilled all *3* of his requirements, not just #3. How are my L98 manifolds doing'? Or the quantity discount on the 2 Quaifes you bought for you old toys? thumbup.gif wink.gif

And Lonnie.... I know you weren't talking about me, I just thought I'd chime in since not everyone feels the same as you do. smile.gif

I guess I would need a new stranoparts sticker now that the Camaro is gone. You do sell Alfa parts, don't you Sam? I know I will need some Koni's at least.

I just put my stickers low, or real high (above/below the defroster bands) and I've not scraped one yet (though one is up about 1 band or so from the bottom now). But, if I can find someone to do them (I need to talk to Dave at soloperformance), I would consider it.

I run stranoparts.com decals and frrax.com usually on magnets. Although I did damaged one of my strano decals. Sam has offered me great service and helpful advice.

Exactly. Acknowledging and promoting people that help me in some way and/or provide a service I want to support (and therefore keep available) is fine.

Bragging about the parts I've bought and/or "making it look like a race car" is just too "ricey".
