The weather looks great.

I'm taking an evo school tomorrow. I can use either 275/40/17 V710's or 245/50/16 hard as a rock sucky Dayton Daytona street tires.

I don't care about the tire wear.

If you can use the V710's. The car will act different on street tires and very different on hard street tires. My V710's are wearing like iron, so it's not like your eating away at them a lot by using them for a school.

Rob, most of my Evolution seat time has been in extremely cold and/or wet conditions.

I'd go for the race tires. Even on wet pavement, they'll grip surprisingly well as long as you are very smooth, they just won't be very forgiving (actually good conditions for learning IMHO). If it's raining hard enough to create a lot of standing water, there will probably also be lightning bringing things to a halt, and the steady stream of cars helps disperse the puddles quickly.

You are mostly hot-lapping, so getting the tires warm isn't as big a problem as it would normally be. Just remember that on the first run of each session, the tire will be cold again.

OTOH, it probably won't rain all day, and it would suck to be on street tires when the sun comes out.

Thanks guys for the excellent last minute advice. thumbup.gif V710's it is then.

I was just wondering about them with tomorrow's T-storm forecast.

Rain will certainly reduce grip for both street tires and race tires. However, at the lower speeds in the tricky parts of the course, the compound makes as much difference as the tread pattern, and a set of "hard as a rock" street tires isn't going to help you much.

You can actually get to WOT on a straight with wet race tires, though it might be a little unnerving. You just have to roll onto the gas very smoothly and brake EARLY.

With rain, you should be okay. If you are doing a Phase 1 and 2, I would _highly_ recommend street tires. You will chord a set of V710s.

I'm just doing phase I so I should be ok. I've only got 10 runs on the new tires, 5 of which were when it was cool.
