Well yesterday morning my wife got hit in the tail of her 97 Jeep Cherokee while stopped at a light. 100% the other guys fault, but anytime your in a wreck it's going to cost some money. No one was hurt which is the most important thing, but the Jeep wouldn't start after the crash. I think the impact triggered the fuel shut-off valve. Does anyone know how to reset the shut-off valve? I'm sure most Jeeps are the same, so if anyone has done this on another Jeep or any vehicle I would appreciate some help, thanks.

I've never had to do that on any of mine. I did have the fuel pick fall off in the tank while four wheeling once. If it is a shut off, have you tried resetting the computer?

I havn't. Right now the car is at a dealer waiting for the insurance adjuster. The car needed to be moved out of the road and figured towing to a dealership would be the best thing for now, since I'm not 100% sure it's the shut-off. When I go to the dealership I what to try resetting the shut-off.

Before anything else, I think I would check the schrader vavle on the fuel rail to see if it has fuel pressure. Good luck with it.

Well you could always try the free advice of flipping through a Chilton's manual at the auto parts store and see what they have to say. I know my 96 F150 had an inertia valve that shut off the fuel system in case of an accident. It was located behind the footwell trim on the passengers side. It is something that I had never thought of or encountered on a vehicle until I started working on that truck and discovered it in the manual.

Sounds like a good possibility. My daughter's Ford Probe (90?) had a switch in the driver's side of the trunk, with a big label explaining why it might have to be reset.

I would think the dealer would be able to help you. Just ask to talk to one of the technicians or the service manager.
