I am in the process of ordering a 12-bolt for my car.
My current 10-bolt will be for sale. It is a 3 channel rear housing with 3.42 GM gears. Superior forged axles, TA cover. It has been painted with POR15 and then a gloss black paint. It currently needs a left axle seal.
I need to replace it before I kill it.
who is interested and what are you offering?

What car is this from? How many miles are on the rear? What kind of power have you been transmitted through this piece? What is the car used for?

It's really hard to put a dollar value on a used rear because it is hard to determine how used it is... It's kinda like shocks.

i paid 250 for mine with 13000 miles off an 02 WS6, complete with shocks, springs, swaybar, brakes, fluid, rotors, and it even had the boot things the springs sat on.

i don't know if it's a TR2 or whatever, but the posi was WAY beefier than the stock lt1 version, and it's bigger than my buddy's on his z28 too.

For $250 I'd say there is no way it was a T2R! Those are $500 new if I remember right.

I guess I need to clarify - I am cautiously interested in this rear but I couldn't even guess at what would be a fair price without knowing more about it's history, etc.

Out of a 2002 WS6 would be a Torsen posi. Called a T2 if I'm not mistaken. SLP sells take-outs for pretty cheap. It is not the T2R which is a road race piece though.

Your LT1 would've originally had an Auburn posi if I remember correctly.

Not really a good comparison because his has the better posi, aftermarket axles, cover, etc.

You did get a good deal on a stock rearend, but this one sounds like it's built for road racing.

here is the history, The unit was built using a 1998 housing, it was sandblasted and painted with POR 15 and then gloss black paint. it was a 3 channel housing. I got the T2r from Sam Strano and a new set of GM 3.42 gears. The axles are forged units from Superior. all the bearings were new. I got a TA cover from LG motorsports along with the bearing cap stud kit. It has been in the car for just over 2 yrs and 6000 miles. Over that time I have been to about 20 autox's and 10 trips to the track with a stock motor( 314 hp).
Now the car got a head/cam, headers and tune ( 411 hp) now the car has been to the track 1 time and 3 autox's, about 1200 miles on the street. The car was run on street tires and Kumho 315 tires, ( v700's untill the last 3 events when I switched to v710's)

That sounds like a nice piece and is exactly what is on my wish list for my CMC Firebird. I know that it will be out of my price range right now. banghead.gif You should be able to get well north of $500 for that. It just comes down to finding a buyer that wants this and has the budget.

I suggest that you change the left axle seal, or maybe both of them, and put it up for sale for $575 plus shipping (which likely won't be cheap).

What ever happened to this rear? I have lost sleep thinking about it.

I fixed the leaking seal and ran the national tour last sat and sun. I will be ordering the 12bolt on the 18th, then they said 7-10 days to get it. then the rear will be out and for sale. I checked everything when i had it apart, the bearing looked fine, ne wear on the axle, the gear pattern looked fine, the seal was just worn out, the new seal was a timkin and was much nicer than the one i took out that came in the mastewr rebuild kit used when the rear was assembled.

This piece is exactly what I am looking for, but I just don't think I can swing the price of what it is worth right now. Go ahead and peddle it and if you don't have good luck or you get fed up, contact me and maybe we can work something out.

I am just glad you don't live closer to me,I would have to make the misses sleep on the couch for a week if she saw another car part in the garge.

lt99ls1: "I would have to make the misses sleep on the couch for a week if she saw another car part in the garge." She would sleep on the couch, that's nice of her. I've been "told" that I might as well just sleep in that damn thing! And you know, the leather isn't all that comfy overnight!

I would take this as well if I lived closer, but it sounds like KeithO needs it more than both of us!

Whatever happened to this rear?
