I was just curious on the mark up on tires, especially tires like Hoosiers, Kuhmos, and Goodyear racing tires. I am sure its nothing like electronics or jewelry.

I used to be, and you would be very surprised at how much the markup can be on some tires. I can't say for sure about the race tires, but I know there are plenty out there in the 25-50% markup range... and even a few with close to 100% markup.

Interesting to know. I am guessing race tires are marked up a bit more than passenger tires because of the specialty of it all.

I don't know, but I'd guess you're probably right. I never saw wholesale prices on race tires.

I'd guess OEM replacement tires are the most marked up. Stuff like "the same Goodyears that came on your car" tires.

I don't know what the dealers get the OEM tires for, but I know they're STUPID expensive in comparison to some of the best types we carried.... IOW I'm sure the markup is totally insane on those... I'm not sure if it's due to the OEM style (The Goodyear Eagle GS-Cs), or if it's just that tire... but I never was impressed with them at all, and they're over 200 a piece for a 245/45-16... IMHO, the two best tires for our cars in the 16 size are the G-Force T/As and the Michelin Pilot Sports (for street tires). I've found both of them for under 190 retail...

It's just so everyone can make a nice tidy profit when the car owner goes "just give me a set of what's on there now (what the car came with)"

There is certainly a lot of money to be saved for the smart tire buyer. Since I'm willing to run the stock tire size on my Duramax pickup (unlike everyone else that wants the big cool looking ones) I'm able to get take-offs from new trucks for $40 to $100 each. New load rated tires for the Dmax are over $200 each. So that gives me a little more cash to put into race tires for the SS, LOL.

Now that IS smart... damn I wish I thought of that... oh yeah, no one ever uses my size tire for anything.
