Just thought I'd post some pictures up. I wanted a completely useless mod to do since I have been bored in the down time here. I decided to fab up a swtich panel, just so I can flip the IGN and START switch like I see them do in Nascar every weekend. smile.gif

Made with all low quality parts from Radio Shack, and some neato .125" 5052 aluminum sheet metal from www.onlinemetals.com.

So far I have the start, ignition, master power working. Still haven't gotten the fuel pump and fans hooked up yet. It will be useful to be able to flip the fans on high and low whenever I want though. I also left two extra for the gauges and gauge lights whenever I get them put in.

Also ripped out the interior. Bare metal is so much nicer. Also, if you haven't seen the marble like roof without the headliner in a hard top car, it's quite interesting. No more door panels, no more center console getting in the way when shifting. I like the whole racecar feel, even though it's still slow. However, since I do drive it places, I'm sure most people think it looks like a theft recovery vehicle...

Lastly, for those who say "I can't live without the radio," without the center console being there, I zip-tie the headunit under the A/C controls whenever I need music. laugh.gif

I would love to have that same set up except with the aircraft covers. I just cant bring myself to loose the stereo. My car is also stripped. Nothing like the look and feel of bare metal. Right now I don't have any door panels and the window controls just dangle there until I get thesheet metal door panels from Wolfe.

BTW.....what would it cost to have you build a duplicate with the red covers? Please let me know.

DAMN Kyle ! !

How the hell am I going to keep up with you this year.

Good to see that you're "getting after it".
Now, get a roll cage and don't worry about the needing a T2R tongue.gif

It's amazing how after driving it for a while, it feels like the car just should be this way. Then someone gets in the car and they think it got stolen and stripped in North Fort Worth.

Speaking of the window controls Nata, I tried to stuff them into a hole on the door so they would be flush with the metal, and would be out of the way. It looked great, and then I went to roll down the window. The large metal gear of death actually swings by that hole, like a buzz saw, and mangled up the wires and ripped the plug out of the switches, it was amuzing. It looks like it could be pretty dangerous for a passenger who didnt know, if they let their pinky hang in that hole while rolling down the window.

I sure do wish 3M's Zip-tie division would sponsor me, that's what holds my window controls, radio, and half of the car together. Also, I have a nitrous switch with the red aircraft covers like you want, and they sure do take up a lot more room than the switches on there now. I'll check it out though and see how they could fit.

The worst part about it was the cost. Buying in single quantities from Radio Shack is what was killer. I need to add up the reciepts here for all that little junk and figure how much it was. Wiring it up was the most fun though, and it was scary grounding my arm out and shocking myself on the air bag sensor where the console should be. I was waiting for the air bags to come shooting out at me.

Also, Andrew, the only thing you are going to be chasing is my "cones hit" count this year! While I've got you here. This is all Street Mod legal right? I never did end up getting a rule book, so the whole weight reduction thing confuses me. I heard someone say you have to keep the front carpet only?

Since the DIN aftermarket stereos are just over half the height of the stock GM systems, I bet you could rig a custom plate that would have the stereo at the top or bottom of the cutout with enough space for a row of switches..

I gutted out my TA, except for the doors and headliner. I don't have the heart to lose the A/C and radio yet, but I am working on it. With racing seats it weighed 3300lbs yesterday at the scale. Have you weighed yours?

Before I took out the front interor pieces I had it at a truck stop. The lady did it for free and said it was "3300" but she wouldn't tell us the last two digits, so it could have been 3399 or 3301, or anywhere in between. The last time we went back they wouldn't let us weigh up, so I haven't found a good place to get on the scales again. The front interior and stereo and all that only lost another 40 lbs. about, so it shouldn't have made too big of a difference.

I'll take some pictures of my custom easy removal head unit mounting system tonight. smile.gif
