Well... I finally have completed or 98% completed my dirt track race car. It is built for the IMCA Stock car class.

With tons of help from my father/crew chief we will get to test it out this weekend for the first of 3 weeks of practice before our season starts March 27th. Weather providing of course.... rain is forcast for the weekend...so we'll just have to wait and see.

NICE!

I want to get into the local short track thing. I will start looking into it by going to a few races. I also want to check out prices of the local tracks' spec tires.

Do you have to run a claimer engine?

If you don't mind, how much does a project like that cost?

Lonnie... Yep this is a claimer class. If you finish in the top 4... anyone still on the lead lap can purchase your engine for $425.

Really the cheapest engines are in the $1200 dollar range. Stock rebuilt short block and decent set of heads will run you about this or more. Not a lot of claiming goes on, but if someone hears about a really nice set of heads, of someone gets ticked off and another driver, then a claim usually happens.

The claims do keep the class pretty level....that and we have to run a 390cfm carb. So if you have a lot of motor....the carb really limits how much you gain from it.

I would say a good used car that is race ready runs anywhere from $4000 -$6500 and a brand new race ready car runs...depending on the builder and how much you do yourself...... $7000 - $12000.

I purchased my car at the end of last racing season...pretty beat up doors and fenders..... for $2500 minus engine and tranny. But still to get it race ready with a new skin, I have somewhere between $4000 - $5000.

Now I just hope I can learn to drive it. tongue.gif

NICE!

How many minutes do you figure it will look that nice?

I would hate to put so much effort into a car....OBVIOUSLY you take pride in the thing!....and have someone LEAN on me in turn 1!

Thats why I run SCCA.....I would get into WAY to many fights running where "rubbin' is racin'"

I don't figure it will look good for long...but that is okay. I am one that wants to lean on someone else.

I can't wait to lay the chrome horn on someone that hits me. biggrin.gif

I'll pretty much wait til' first blood is drawn. cool.gif

My Dad and I built it so that each panel...except the quarters can be individually removed and dents beat out.

We pretty much will go by the 50/50 rule.... If it looks good at 50mph or 50 yards then it is good to go next week. ohmy.gif
