WHAT'S ALL THE FUSS?

"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001? Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania? Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia.

I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling, slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college hazing incident, rest assured that I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank that I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and -- you guessed it, I could not have said this any better myself!

We generally don't do political discussions here. We seem to have enough trouble some days as it is......
ESPCamaro
I couldn't care less about those things either.

But I can tell you that Osama Bin Laden is NOT in Iraq.

I can also tell you that if a country tried or succeded in taking control of THIS country they would sure see some "insurgents".

Time to bring the troops home. F%%%k those people. Let em' fight it out amongst themselves.

I will respect Kevins request not to get into political discussions in this forum. Sorry, Kevin I didn't know about that rule. I'll save these types of posts for other forums in the future. But since he decided not to delete the post, maybe it would be best to send me a PM if you want to respond to it. I sometimes find political discussions entertaining, at least as long as they don't degenerate into name calling and ranting. With all the good discussions that happen here, I don't think that would happen with this group which is why I posted the letter here.

We have a forum over at my site just for this kind of stuff. I'm sure Kevin won't mind my spamming for LS1LT1.com in this case.

If you want to get some good (and sometimes kook fringe) responses, post it at http://ls1lt1.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=80

It's not exactly a rule (is it? I'll have to reread them again.....I forget), more of a request to keep it civil if it's going to happen at all. That's why I didn't lock it. I wasn't saying it was not allowed so much as we have enough trouble with arguements that I fear that this is asking for another one. I spend some fractional amount of time in political discussions on cc.com, but not much since I can't say that I'm even a good armchair quarterback in the political arena. (I'd have nuked this whole mess long ago.....see, I'm not good at this, then IRAN, and the list goes on..... nutkick.gif ). So, it doesn't have to go, but if it gets ugly, I'll make it disappear (unlike the other threads where there is good tech among the fighting, a political thread is easy to get rid of.....)

Chris, you are more than welcome to spam for your board here. We don't overlap much between our membership.

You just described the two sisters who live across my street! They are about 65ish, and sit around all day on their porch, talking with whoever walks by, and telling them about the day's news.

What debate? Lowering your panhard bar is the only way to go.

Having a stock height panhard is the automotive equivalent of being a communist.

Ok, ok no political discussions.

I don’t guess it makes a lot of difference, but for the sake of correctness (not political correctness), Pam Foster did not compose the referenced letter. See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/soapbox/foster.asp

I agree with many of the writer’s sentiments, but I would like to debate him on his rhetorical question, “Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we?” I guess the answer depends on how you define “fighting”. Are you really fighting if you are afraid to win? If you want to appear internationally-politically-correct more than you want to win? If you would rather sacrifice your own soldiers than to possibly kill an “innocent” enemy civilian (they all appear to be civilians; none of the enemy is wearing uniforms)?

I would say we are “Vietnaming” a war on terror; apparently playing for a stalemate. When you are playing multiple chess games simultaneously, you must watch each board. Otherwise not only will you not win, you won’t even achieve your desired stalemate.

Maybe it doesn’t really matter if you are fully engaged in all of the fields of play, if you have already decided that it is not fare for you to use your queen or bishops or rooks. Maybe you have already conceded defeat if you send your warriors into battle wearing handcuffs.

It makes little sense to ask WHY fire engines are red unless you have established that they actually are.

and don't forget the stiff sprung or lightly sprung debate, we can throw in "Ground non-control" for good measure on rubber in the suspension. rotf.gif We've had some good ones. :leaving:

Somewhat on topic though. I find the wording for "the war on terror" interesting. This would imply we are fighting an idea, concept or belief. The thought being, if one is fighting terrorism, the reason/motivation for the terrorizing has to be removed in order to stop it. This has been proven many times over throughout history to be a lost cause as one can eliminate a person place or thing, but never an idea. The very nature of the war makes it a perpetual task, basically not something that can be won. The firetruck analogy is nice, people have to know what they are fighting and how to eliminate it before they can even try to defeat it.

Now all we need is a thread to show how cool (insert car wax label) is compared to Zaino and it's so much better. rotf.gif

never going to happen. Zaino owns all biggrin.gif
