My optima gave up the ghost today and I'm battery shopping. I'm thinking of getting a odysssey but before I do does anyone have a better suggestion?

Check the warantee on your Optima?

ahh I didnt buy it new, looking at the odyssey and wondering if it will handle the job for a mostly street driven car. should I get the 925 or the 600? we're talking 23lbs and 14lbs respectively.

I know someone here is using the 680 in a daily driver, maybe Jon_A? I'm using it too, but mines not a daily driver. I do have starting issues to begin with, so I probably should have used the 900 instead. Once I get this issue taken care of I should be good. But it did start just fine last week after sitting for over a month without a charge.

Search for hawker, and make sure the search is set for "and OLDER". That'll catch you every time.

This is what shows up at the top of the list, there are others too.

I'm on season number three for the Hawker 14 lber... It always starts the car. The only thing I do is make sure the battery gets plugged into an auxilliary charger whenever I let the car sit for more than a few days. It's low enough capacity and the gell cells are notorious for building up a high internal resistance if you let them deep discharge. So keep it on a charger when you are not using it and they seem to last.

Update... I got the PC680 and it's working well. 2thumbs.gif

went from a Red Optima to a Yellow Optima...

The only time my Hawker needed a charge was after sitting for a few weeks and then sending a new computer tune in for about one minute with the key on, which also heats up the WB02 and killed it. I've done this twice, and let it charge with a normal car charger for about 2 hours each time, and it has no issues starting up for my track days every couple weeks after sitting. It even started the car up after sitting all winter (4 months).

I completely drained my PC680 down to 5 or 6 volts just sitting over the winter, maybe 2 or 3 months. It was weird since I started it once or twice after sitting for the same amount of time and it was fine. A few months later it was dead, go figure.

I charged it with an old regular car charger, with voltage swinging wildly (not good). Then I got the $30ish charger from batterymart, part # 1206 sounds familiar. Now it stays plugged in almost all of the time and was good to go at the last autocross. That includes the first of the morning, at the breakfast stop, tech, 8 runs, another 2 just for jockying the car around, 1 for the way home, and 1 last time after clearing out the 'long term storage parking spot.'

best thing you can do for longer than 2 weeks of storage on a battery is keep a tender or trickle charger on it...
