.....looks to me like the driver got lulled into thinking he was pretty good by waiting for all the point bys.....now I KNOW why I never went HPDE....that would KILL ME...and when he got behind a "racy" red f-body.....he overcooked it trying to keep up....

I think the red racey car was a turbo RX7
And he was lulled into watching the car's tail lights and not where he was on the track

I don't think he got hit, that looked just like a killer dose of brake hop to me. I think he got up on the RX7 (who buried his foot in the brakes for some reason), hammered the brakes, the back hopped, it tried to spin, he tried to catch it and it went around anyway. I've done the same thing several times (though it was while running a fast autocross course) and sometimes you can stand on the clutch and save it (engine braking makes it "tons" worse....not that you guys didn't know that)....and sometimes you can't.....

When I eventually get around to putting my racing videos on the 'net I'm also going to edit to only show me passing other cars. Never show me getting passed, and people will think I'm the best driver evAr!!

seriously! it's like he didn't really care to show any sort of line or driving skill on track. just showing when he came up on slower traffic.....

....must have watched the video only half heartedly.....I mistook the red car for an f-body....sorry guys

and did not notice the red guy braking as aggressively as you guys.....but FOR SURE....the driver of the video car was at fault.....very poor attempt at driving IMHO... :leaving:

It's 18.1 megs. I don't have anywhere to host it, but I can send it to someone if needed (and you have a way to get it).

This was posted over at cc.com and the driver's comments were supposedly in that thread. He claims that he didn't really need to brake much there and the RX7 surprised him with the amount of braking being done at that location. He says he chose to miss him and go off course.

Yeah, right. <_<
That's VIR - full course and that back stretch is fast, about 3/4 of a mile in length. You have to brake fairly good there at the end of it, as you're at the top of the 'roller coaster' and you make a slight left and an immediate right and drop about 100' in elevation to get to the front stretch. He was definitely watching something else and not paying attention.
And did you notice the frost on the grass runnoff areas?, it was definitely cold there in Dec.
You can watch a full lap from one of
my videos to get the idea of the track layout.

I meant to post "his words" and forgot. But, I don't think he chose to miss him that way.....

I downloaded the video before the bandwidth was exceeded. Give me a place to upload it and I'll dump it there.
Edit: Someone please copy it from here and host it elsewhere. Thanks!

That was some violent brake hop. I've had break hop in the past, but did this guy ever here of modulation and threshold braking? I don't know, the way I saw it, he wasn't reacting quick enough to what the car was doing. Who knows, maybe the same would have happened to me, but I wouldn't have been driving like a tool.
Is it just me or did it sound like that motor was revving HIGH?

If that was brake hop, WOW! He should get that fixed before tracking the car anymore. What kind of car was he driving?

... it appeared to be a Camaro SS and it also seemed that if he wasn't getting a 'point-by' he wasn't really paying attention to anything but getting that next 'point-by'.
The red RX-7 was mid-way into the brake zone, so if this (video) person was really paying attention, they'd a now'd that.
I dunno, I've looked at the
event pix and don't find many of the cars in that video, let alone a red RX-7 or even an F-body.

So true, I was wincing each time they went around another car expecting something bad to happen! Not much attention paid to the line or whether it was a good place to pass.

I think it was to much car for them, or was trying to keep up with a better driver! They would TRY and follow the car in front, even when the subi spun

they just followed the spinning car :leaving:
The rx7 did have some pretty good rear brake lockup, about 20' of rubber! It scared the crap out of them and slammed on the brake's
We have all made mistake's once, this was just a big one!
