We keep a house mate arround to help pay the bills. He decided the other day it was time for us to get a new TV.... Sunday, his 50" Sony SXRD beast was delivered...... the Daytona 500 is going to be NICE this year ;-)

I'm buying one of those shortly. There will be a 50" Sony here very soon. I'm finishing up the home theater stuff first.

I'll be backing my new Sony up with 1,365 watts (RMS) of theater goodies.....

Wimps. You haven't watched TV until you've tried a 92" 16:9 screen and projector. I put one in our bonus room upstairs for Christmas, and it's absolutely INCREDIBLE. Best part is I only spent about $600 for the whole setup. I just upgraded the Dish receiver up there to the HDTV unit, and it's unbelievable. Plus, I've got my Xbox hooked up to it as well. Almost gives you motion sickness when you play racing games.

Now if someone would only broadcast the F1 races in HD...

I do have to say though, projectors are really only good for light controllable rooms. I'd love to get a 48" plasma for our family room, but they are still too expensive.

I totally agree. A projector with a good lumens would work fine in a lit room, only gets drained out with halogen light on high. I covered up windows to keep sunlight out. I've been using mine for about a year and a half now. I just wish I could afford HDTV cable tv, still on basic.

There are also "upconverting" dvd players now that play normal dvds in hd

The projector I got (Infocus 4800) actually does upconversion, but there is still a huge difference between something broadcast/recorded in HD, and something that has been upconverted. I didn't really realize that until I got my Dish HD unit. Now I'm going to have to get a progressive scan DVD player.

I was actually suprised at how well the anti-glare works on this tv. We have it directly accross from south facing windows and there is no problem at all..... the thing is really bright too, so it is tough to drown it out. The only issue at all is that you have to be at the same level as the TV or else the picture fades a ton. Angled viewing is amazing, very little if any distortion or loss, its just the vertical angle that you have to watch out for.

Do it, trust me. I've got 3 of them right now (and may be parting with one soon, DVI outputs, 1080i upconversion, etc). The difference is amazing.
