Street Legal High Performance Vehicle Registration Nothing on their website convinces me they can do this. I always thought a special license plate would be good for us "mod" types, since we do not significantly contribute to smog. Why not charge us a fee, take the handcuffs off us and start going after those smokestacks factories that have the get out of jail free card right now from the current (cough) administration.

This part (among other things) worries me: "Your title will arrive four to six weeks from registration".
Uh, the vehicle needs to be retitled ????
If not totally fraudulant, I suspect they are still retitling it in a permissive state, which is probably still illegal in your home state.

Believe it or not, in New Jersey it is actually pretty easy to get a modified car legally registered and inspected. If your car won't pass for emissions or some other reason you can get it registered as a collector's car. Any year is valid with any mods, but I doubt an all out race car would pass.
The catch is that you can't drive the car more than 3,000 miles a year. They told me to reset the trip meter and drive around the parking lot. It counted .1 mile or so and I got a fresh sticker. That was it. The hardest part was telling the people there that you want to register the car as a collector's, not a classic.
Why would I need somebody else to do that for me?

I'm sure a lot of California cars would want to be able to get away with more mods (other states too). This website has all the appearance and makings of a rip-off.
I agree that the factories and other large industrial facilities should pay their fair share for polluting, but it isn't a current administration-only problem. Countless previous administrations (of either political persuasion) have looked the other way for a long time.
At least in AZ all they do is connect to the onboard computer; as long as it doesn't register any emissions issues, you pass.

People will whine about an industry not being environmentally friendly enough, but then whine when rates go up as a result.
That being said I work for one of the most environmentally friendly power companies in the country-and one with the lowest rates.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
After you decide to use our service, the process is as easy as 1-2-3. First, you pay what is necessary. Second, we send you the required documents to fill out and return. Third, we will provide you with new registration and license plates for the vehicle. It's that simple..
Sorry, I'm not going to pay money until I see the results. "Pay for Performance"

Indeed! I contacted my local news station that has a consumer watch segment since this was posted locally on the board of one of our Sacramento Firebird clubs. The news station is interested!

sounds like free money for the people who set up the site.
jersey has a "race tag" that you can purchase for mod'd cars and trucks. but like the others have said, there are restrictions on what you can do to the car and how much you can drive it. it's also expensive. i forget the actual name of it, but it's basically a tag that permits excessive emissions and missing emissions. it also allows for NOS and higher octane fuels.

I haven't heard about the race tag in Jersey, but I think the collector car registration costs $20 extra every 2 years. Worth it in my book!

I'd like to hear more about this "race tag" in NJ. I get nervous driving around here trying to do some tuning.

Cool.....I'm driving around in the dark trying to get out of my jurisdiction as quietly and quickly as possible to get some tuning in on some state monitored backroads.

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cleanair/exempt_inspection.htmlDennis check this link out. It lists the ways cars can be registered so they don't have to be inspected. For collectors cars they just make sure the odometer works and that it hasn't racked up 6,000 miles since the last inspection (every 2 years). I'm sure you can get your car to do that.

I've seen that before. I thought it was something a bit different. I have a feeling they wouldn't let me through....!CATS, Slicks, !Seatbelts, etc. Mine is good til 3/06. Hopefully by then it won't need to be on the street at all.

That is this month!!
The guy looking at my odometer just stuck his head inside the car to made sure the trip meter was counting. He didn't look under the hood or under the car. Granted my car looks stock and your's doesn't. But I don't have any emissions under the hood, my air tube coming out of the cat is plugged, my heads don't have an EGR passage, and the last time it was sniffed it failed misserably. Can you get a set of street tires for it?
I'm curious to see if your car would pass, that means I could get away with more then! I might throw on my 710's the next time I have to go.

Sorry.....3/07 I meant. Mine looks stock on the outside....but once they looked inside, I think I'd be in trouble! Curious if you could get through on V710's. Probably make it through on slightly used 700's.
