This is a link to a video of my boss taking a hotlap at his first FATT in his STi at Summit Point. I posted this non-Fbody video to raise the bar for what track or autocross videos can be. This video integrated a simple OBD2 data logger in with the video. The very left number is the current gear, to the right of that is brake and throttle data. The red number is the MPH and above that is a bar to indicate RPM. On the very right is the boost data in units of bar. The video and data were integrated by modifing some software we have at work.

Howdy,
Details on the obd2 logger / video interaction?

The OBD2 data logger was generic OBD2 scanning software run off a crappy PALM! I can get the name of the program if you want, but I would use a much better data logger. I think it's amazing how good it turned out with such simple (cheap) hardware. The boost gauge was made from Photoshopping a picture of a real gauge. The needle was drawn sepperate and the position of the needle was programed to move based on the data. He wrote a custom Matlab program to overlay the boost needle and all the numbers (mph, gear, etc) onto the video by reading the data straight from the logger, matching the time stamps. He interpolated the data so it would match the frame rate of the camera. I can get 20 Hz sampling with my HPTuners logger, I think with his Palm he could only get 5 Hz. Most of the synchronization problems came from using such a crappy data logger.
BTW the synchronization is done offline.

Howdy,
Darn. I thought it was something that plugged into the ODB2 port, gathered data, and injected it onto the video in real time prior to the recording device. I.e. black box solution.
I guess I need to read a little more closely though... :-)

Howdy,
Btw... Its a sweet video! I'm just not gonna be interested though without the level of effort/skill being a lot less...
'cause, you know, I sorta got enough projects right now. I figure I might be caught up in maybe 20 years.
But probably not. :-)

Neat concept! Wow, that thing has short gearing! Very cool that you worked it out with MATLAB!
