Full Version: Rag joint eliminator problem?

I installed the rag joint eliminator a while ago and I noticed my steering wheel points about 20-25* to the left when going straight after its install. I also have installed new balljoints, LS1 brakes, shocks/springs and tie rod ends right before it so I am going to take it in for an alignment tomorrow. Do you think they will be able to fix this issue or is my eliminator defective?

Howdy,

"new tie rod ends" is the likely culpright for the off-center steering wheel.

Maybe your old ragjoint was defective? smile.gif Or your new tie rod ends aren't the same length as the old ones, like Mark said.

There's not much to to one of these solid disks that eliminate the ragjoint: as long as the 4 holes are drilled at 90 degrees to each other, I don't see much else that can be wrong with them.

See if the shop runs out of thread on the tie rods during the alignment--that's going to be limiting factor. If that's the case and the eliminator is fine, maybe your whole rack is off, or a tie rod is bent, or one of the new tie rod ends is iffy?

I may need a sanity check here, but couldn't you just park car with the wheels straight, disconnect the steering knuckle, turn the steering wheel to the desired location, and then reconnect the steering knuckle? I don't know what sort of junk is on top of that on a street car, but on the race car taking the steering knuckle off is one of the easiest things to do.

Nope. It only goes in one way on this car. I'm sure the alignment shop should be able to fix this through tie rods. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Yep, alignment fixed all issues. Thanks!
