I ran across this site a while back and it made me realize how little I know about what makes a car handle well. Started reading threads and wanted to ask questions so I joined up, also I wanted to use the search function.

I have 1998 Z28 M6 with a couple of bolt-ons, nothing suspension related though. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy the thrill of acceleration but going fast in a straight line cannot hold a candle to corner carving, IMHO.

In two weeks, I am moving to Greensboro, NC, which is only an hour away from VIR. So it is time for me to bring the handling abilities up to scale with the acceleration abilities of the car. Not to mention driver abilities. unsure.gif

Now to get to the point. I will be asking many questions and wanted to thank you guys for your patience and understanding in advance. There is an enormous amount of information and insight on this board and I am going to tap in to it.

No problem Welcome aboard, we are glad to help out. If you can't find it in a search, just ask, there's a good chance that someone can answer your questions. wink.gif

First thing. The car is way, way, faster than you think it is (even on a road course) and fixing the driver is a good idea before you throw too much money at parts. I know it's the opposite of any other car boards advice, but we will generally suggest better brake pads and track time. Then, as you progress, work on the car. It will go plently fast enough to get you in plenty of trouble just as it sits. Learn to find what's there first. (Though an alignment is a good idea).

Thanks for the welcome! There does seem to be many like minded people here. I know what you mean Trackbird, find the shortcomings and then fix them, as my driving abilities catch up. My car does have 97k miles on it so I know there are parts that need to be R&R and thats what I plan on doing first. As a side note, it was your posts on LS1Tech that led me to this sight. You should plug it more. LOL

Well, considering I have never even riden on a motorcycle, it would be more scary than fun. ph34r.gif Although, I do intend to change that one day but from what I understand it is best to learn on a dirt bike.

I just can't wait to turn a few laps at VIR. The last time I visited North Carolina I took a trip up there to check out the facility and found what I had seen on TV didn't do it justice. In my opinion, the Formula 1 US GP should move there. I might get flamed for this, but it seems VIR would make for better racing, although there is a lot of history at the Brickyard.

VIR is beautiful. I've worked crew there, and I only got time to do parade laps there (my driver wanted me to take his wife out to see the track). It's amazing. It's also a bit narrow for F1 (in my opinion), but it is truly beautiful.
soulless
I did notice how narrow it is and thought it might make passing so difficult it would be non-existant and that doesn't make for entertaining racing for the spectator. The thing is, IMHO, it is such a more dynamic track. Well atleast I will be able to watch the Rolex series there, now if we could get ALMS there I would be on cloud 9 even without F1.

I hate to admit that we have tried to keep ourselves a "secret". It's not that people aren't welcome, they absolutely are. It's that we get much better referrals by word of mouth from racer to racer. This avoids 300 threads on "which lid is the best", like you'll see on some other sites.

It makes it more personal and it avoids the silliness that ensues when you finally meet some board members.

Hey are you "Tiressqueellingmonster"? Cool nice to meet you I'm "Addicted2bottle"? What was your real name again?tongue.gif

D'oh huh.gif

Do I need to take those stickers off my car? They have made the rounds this year.

Craig - just get a new printer cartridge and fasten your seat belt when searching here. I've got at least 200 pages of printed threads in my garage. Some things that I've used, some things I will use, and a few things that I'll never use - but were too cool to let go!

Welcome!

Nah, anyone who sees your race car is probably in the right place, and not by accident....... burnout.gif
