i have lots of questions about this area and this track.

fuel!
when we go to Hallett, OK and run @ HMRC we cant get 93 octain. due to altitude its not required there.
what is the fuel situation in the area around Mid Ohio?

track length? i looked all over the track web site and didnt see any mention of length. how long is the club course? also, do you guys w/ 4th gens and 3.42 gears use 5th there? if so, how high in RPMs do you get in 5th? i'm hoping i can stay in 4th.

that is all for now, more to come later.

I run 93 in my street car. I buy it at the shell down the street from my house (and many other stations). It's readily availble here.

Sorry I can't help on the other questions.

Finding 93 Octane is not a problem in Ohio. I haven't been there in a couple years, but they did sell fuel in the paddock. You could get 93 but it was cheaper to get it at the gas station that was a few miles from the track.

In a stock motored and geared '00, I was up near the limiter in 4th at the end of the back straight IIRC.

Glenn,

FWIW, last time I was there with my 3rd gen I was running times similar to the CMC guys and I was shifting into 5th just before the kink on the back straight. You'll definitely need it unless you really want to scream the motor or pedal it halfway down the straight.

As far as data points, 3000lbs, shifting at 5200, 3.23 gear, worn out 350 TPI with headers. The car was a dog in 5th with a .63 5th in the V8 T5 but with the .76 5th in the V6 T5 it pulled nicely.

My opinion, the end of that straight away is awesome when you're hauling the mail in 5th, stand on the brakes at the 400 marker, downshift twice, and hit the right-hander just right to set you up for Madness biggrin.gif

PS- You can get 93 octane fuel in town with a 5-10 minute drive south.

The track is about 2.25 miles without using the kink going into the keyhole, 2.4 miles with. The track has been repaved with some additional kinks added, but I can tell you the lengths if they are being used.

BP and Shell are both available at the freeway exit (at least they were the last time I was up there), and they used to sell Cam 2 at the track - if you are so inclined.

I just ran there this past weekend.

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding 93 octane in the area. It's only a 3 hour tow for me so when I fill up the car during the tow out, I also fill car and the three 5-gallons cans that I have. That covers me for the full weekend so I have never had to worry about buying gas locally. The track also has a self-serve credit-card pump with street and race gas.

Length: 2.4 miles with chicane, 2.25 miles without chicane

I shift into 5th in my 4th gen at the kink on the backstraight. Others have told me that they just turn the crap out of the motor or lift alittle - neither of these are my choice so I shift.

What else do you want to know?

LOL! I was doing 80 at some points on the way home from Mid Ohio, in Ohio. I am unaware of funny speed limits for towing. Although, in this part of the country, there are speed limit signs that have two speeds based on vehicle weight...
trackbird
We restrict tractor trailers to 55, but I don't think that applies to your situation (I don't remember seeing a GVWR on those signs). Traffic usually moves at 70+ in this area without problem, I generally drive 80-ish. I did recently get my second ticket for 79 in a 65, so they seem to write you there. And, my last ticket was listed that 1-10 over was $110, 11-20 over was $130, so if you're running 76-78, you may as well go for 84......smile.gif

Is there a problem transporting a couple cases of homebrew across those state lines?

I dunno.dunno.gif We have a marketing meeting tomorrow, though. Doing more advertising there has been talked about occasionally, but I think so far we've only been doing the driving school sponsorship. I'll bring it up again.

Not sure what will happen when you tow but I normally drive 5-7 miles over the limit (including a few trips to Austin and back) and I have never seen a cop even twitch when I go by. Even when all the other idiots around me are standing on their brakes (normally too late anyway) and it is very noticable that I am going faster than them. I would advise you to follow the speed limit signs in construction zones - especially in Ohio.

I've never had a problem with microbrew beers. But then, I have never been stopped either while doing it.
