The discussion that of this season WC events especially the CTS-v team has intrigued me. I read where they used a C5R block but ran it at stock displacement. I did not think that was really all that fair. Oh well I guess.

I also read they were able to move the engine rearward to even the weight bias. I could not find something to confirm that bit.

Reading the link below - I suppose loosely interpreted you could have a C5R block and meet stock displacement.

http://www.speedvisionwc.com/carfacts.html
Grand Touring (GT): Includes a variety of production displacements with no maximum. Forced induction is permitted and is used to equalize individual models. Sedans, coupes, convertibles and two-seat models are permitted. The cars can be rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive. Class horsepower range is 425-550 bhp.

There were some people talking about body modifications to the CTS-V. This link has some talks about it:

http://www.theracesite.com/index.cfm?paget...rm_article=6513
"As to the seemingly extreme body modifications Coalwell said, "the only unfortunate thing is that the CTS-V has such a high stock ride height and the "flat-sided" body, the race body looks quite a bit different from stock because when they lowered the car the 5" to get down to the permitted 3" minimum ride height they had to move the wheel arch up the side of the fenders and trim the bottom of the bodywork so that it did not drag on the ground."

[edit] I guess they could have taken a full sized van and made its ride height 3" tall and won last weeks race. wink.gif [/edit]

i don't get it.. i've never seen a stock CTS-V that looked half as cool as that CTS-V world challenge race car... what's the selling point?... "we have enough money to buy this series, so buy our cars"?

all the other cars seem to have 'cool' factors that are very simalar to their stock counterparts

oh well.. it will still be cool if a C5-R engine wins the championship....
CMC#5
Yeah, ok, but how many A6 sedans have you seen that look like an A6 WC car?
prockbp
true.. but the coolest thing about those cars is the all wheel drive.. i think that is a great selling point... all you have to do is see one standing start

The CTS-V were channelled 3 down th sides by 3" and widened 2". Then the floor pan had to be re-engineered to accomodate the lowered stance.

The 6.0 block was worked over quite nicely.

I talk about the race in the thread entitled 'Back from Sebring' found in the Road Race section of this forum.

My uneducated opinion,

The teams must maintain the original "Body in White" and outer body skin (fascia, fenders, roof...) modifications should be limited.

Assuming that "body in white" set of dimentions very closely resemble the stock chassis, I agree. Small changes always have to be made, but we are beyond that in the Caddies case (in my opinion). I like (sorta) the race car, I think the street car is quite ugly.

To me the CTS-V street car is still MUCH better looking than the CTS. The first time I saw one on the road a few months ago now I was amazed at how much difference it made changing out the wheels, tires, modifying the front fascia, etc. Heck, I'd own one. However, when our new car is introduced in a few months we're going to eat the GTO for breakfast and then come after the CTS-V for a satisfying dinner. cool.gif

Interesting...its like the late 60's all over again smile.gif

But the big question is will it have a manual tranny available? Without one it'll have a hard time attracting diehard gearheads no matter how much power it has.

Good question. Can't answer it yet, but I will say we're not going after the diehard gearhead market. We're just going to come out with a car that beats up on cars owned by diehard gearheads. Hehe.

Mike,

Who is we? Where do you work?

Track bird the "body in white" is the stock chassis. And now that I've thought about it a little more, the moving of the suspension pickup points should be allowed to some degree.

My issue with what I watched last weekend is seeing 'hacked up' caddies defeat the rest of the field 1-2. I watched one caddy with a dead engine [due to a dragging clutch] on the starting grid, then managed to get it started, then pass all the other cars but the other caddy. Meaning I think the number two finisher was dead last of all the cars that finished the race at the start of the race.

All CTS models are available with M tranmissions. See the reviews on Edmunds.

Steve,

I work at Chrysler, specifically in the SRT group (used to be called PVO).
redbird1
Mike,
Do you work at CTC?
What's the SRT group?

Steve

I work across the street from CTC. So does Eric Vickerman, also on this board. SRT stands for Street and Race Technologies. PVO stood for Performance Vehicle Operations. PVO came out with the Viper and SRT-4.

Sounds like fun. Mike, can you get me a job there? wink.gif

Thanks Mike! Blow my cover... ph34r.gif

As for the Caddies it's only just started. They are building to attack just about every sedan class then can with the cts-v. Nice car, good idea, but as Mike said just wait! Better yet just wait til' I get my hands on one.

The good thing about the Caddies is that no one seems to care about the Comp Coupe anymore. Unfortunatley the young guys running the program don't have any experience in swaying the sactioning bodies votes or flat out being creative, unlike GM.

It's time for Chrysler and Ford to step up their game.
