Full Version: Recommendations on all season truck tires

As the topic/description says, I'm getting ready to put new tires on my 1998 Dakota Sport (2wd). The truck sees significant use 12 months a year (it has 206k on it so far), so I want something that will last, give a reasonable ride, and not cost more than the truck's current market value. Have tried Yoko Avids, Kumho equivalent (can't recall model), and the pathetic factory rubber. Anyone know of a durable alternative to those listed?

If the truck ever sees wet grass, the BFG All-Terrain KO might be a good choice. It is a very durable tire that works well in snow. The compound is fairly hard, so there are better choices for ice, but it is a popular choice for people who moonlight as parking lot snowplowers. I've used them on several trucks because of their wet grass prowess.

I'm currently running the Interco Trxus mud tire on my big Dodge. It is very soft and sticky and siped and works well on ice, but it probably won't last all that long if you are racking up a lot of miles.

Michelin LTX M/S. I've used them on a couple of trucks and recommended them to friends. Great tires. They're long wearing (80K is not uncommon) and have excellent wet traction throughout their life.

Michelin LTX M/S are what I have and I love those tires. I've had 3 sets on 2 different trucks. Great all round tire.

Another vote for the LTX M/S. I work in a tire store, and we have the fewer problems with Michelins than any other brand. They are a little pricey, but well worth the extra cash IMO. They ride very well, balance out very nicely, and just oooooze quality.

The BFG All Terrain is a tough, tough tire, but they aren't the smoothest riding tire. Several times we have installed a set of new All Terrains on a truck, only to have to order another tire because one of the four we had in stock won't balance with a resonable amount of weight (>4 oz on one side).

Thanks for all of your replies. I went to Tirerack and spec'd out the Michelin LTX M/S. Seems like a good tire. Was surprised to see it rated 8th in its category. Most reviews were very favorable. The Bridgestone Deuler H/L Alenza was rated second in the category and is considerably less costly. Anyone here have any experience with these tires? They also have a $75 rebate on a set of four for the next few weeks, so I'm tempted to try them for the $167 savings on a set of four. The B'stone RE 750's on my Z-28 have been great- even saw some track service (3 sessions of HPDE last event). I'm really torn between the Michelins (based on your rave reviews) and the Bridgestones. Michelins LTX M/S, period. I put nearly 50k on them in less than 2 years and they still looked NEW. They worked well for me in the one snowstorm I had to deal with. Plus they are quiet, something I haven't found on other truck tires.
