Full Version: odometer quit working during cluster teardown

I've been finishing up the re-wiring job on the Camaro the past couple of weekends, and did a test of the lights, relays, and gauges. With the abs gone, I had the abs light, and a couple of others. (clipping the wires to the cluster didn't turn them off, apparently those have to be grounded to turn the light off...)

So I took the gauge cluster back out, disassembled it, and pulled out the led's that are soldered into the board. When I was taking the layers off the back of the cluster, the little ribbon cable to the odometer came off. I put it all back together, and the odometer still lights up, but there is no total mileage or trip mileage displayed anymore.

Is there some way to get the odo to be functional again?

I don't really care if the total mileage doesn't reset (it was off by more than 20k when I did the v6 to v8 swap anyway). But I would like to know how many miles are being put on the tires, the oil, per tank of gas, the shocks, the hubs, etc., etc.

Is it as simple as jumpering a couple of the connectors, or is this odo module hosed?

One person said you have to make sure the connector is seated just right. I thought I might have bent a pin too. (they're _really_ small)

Ends up I was just missing a ground somewhere. Now the odo (and the fuel gauge) are working just fine. smile.gif
