I can understand the rush. They need to get something into that segment before all the Camaro people migrate to their other options -- the Mustang, the WRX/STi, the Evo... etc.

I hope they don't screw it up though.

No more first year production cars for me. I'll wait for the second or third year run.

...yeah...I don't know if rushing the thing out is the best idea.....if it was a matter of a real efficient/streamlined process that gets the job done in "record" time.....I am all for it....but given GM's record.....I think this is just likely to lead to a few too many cut corners....

While I agree 100%, as a shining light of hope I point out the Soltice was done in record time, and it turned out pretty well.

Maybe, JUST MAYBE, GM will get it right......please.....

hehe.. the article says it may come out 12 months earlier than the 1st quarter of 2009...

that's like 15 months optimistically

but, what the hell.. it's a lot more fun to just keep cutting time off that rumor...

let's call it 6 months..

i totally heard a new rumor- 'New Camaro out in 6 months!'

No first year prod for sure, especially after the GTO got a 50HP boost and a real exhaust after 1 year. I feel bad for those people.

I have the approval from the wife. I'm going to start trying out how to order one.

A serious question though.... Does anybody know if there will be an "SS" and an "Z/28", or an "IROC" ??

I don't want the base car, when I could have a Z/28. I like what somebody's sig says.. "lots of cars can be SS but only a camaro can be an Z/28"

There won't be an IROC, since that series hasn't used Camaros in quite some time (1990 IIRC).

Correction: The November 2006 issue of Car and Driver has a brief article and photo of the new Zeta platformed Holden Commodore VE which, supposedly, is what will be the underpinings and running gear of the 5th gen Camaro here (p.39). If all they have to do is add the Camaro body/interior package, there shouldn't be a big issue getting the car out in a short time frame. Better questions: Base price? Base car model? The Aussie car has a $34k base and tops out at $39.5k.

First year may not be horrible. They've already got the engine well sorted out. If I'm not mistaken, the LS2 was new in the GTO's first year. Tranny should be fine, too. Most everyone here will do exahust anyway, so I don't care what they give me there. Body panels are body panels - they'll be OK, but not terrific. I am a bit worried about the suspension. It may take a year to get that part right. But, again, that'll probably be replaced by most here.

My big decision will be new Camaro or slightly-used C6 Vette.

My issues with GM first runs have usually never been the driveline but rather everything else. smile.gif Of course I have a 5.3 Vortec that sounds like a diesel when it's cold but that's "normal."

I'd be interested in buying one the second year if the weight is reasonable.
