He really sounds like a lost cause to me. Can't see the forest for the trees.

There is a slim chance I met that guy at a Giant Stadium autocross this year, I think his name is Rob. He showed up the first time with a black 4th gen then again with a gold 2nd gen, missing a lug nut due to a cross threaded stud. I noticed a few "various overlays/emblems" he got off of eBay. He didn't seem very argumentative in person.

But I have to say demodding a car doesn't make much sense either. Thats why I'm stuck autocrossing in CP instead of a lesser class. Ehh, you make your bed yada yada. That's the problem some people have with organized racing, the organization. Put them in an open class and they complain since they haven't spent enough money to be competitive.

With drag racing you have a universal standard, best number wins, do whatever you want to get there. Swap over to something with rules and they have issues.

I have met many drag racers like that. They refuse to accept any kind of rule set, and have no respect for those who do follow rules.

I tried. We'll see where that goes.

Sounds like he's upset that he can't afford to go racing. It happens.
Ojustracing
Okay guys don't forget he's going to post a link to this post on here.. Showing that were ganging up on him... Isn't his firebird pic on here somewhere with a crooked NJ plate..

Dear Glen,

as far as the LS1TECH thread, some people just won't get it.

Now you did mention over there that you went 55 sessions with 2 sets of brake pads. Is this a typo? If not what do you use? My brake pad buget is killing me. I can't get pads to last more than 2 weekends, I tryed HT-10's, HP+, OEM Raybestos, OEM performance friction, and other part store brands.

i'll take that "2260" and think you meant to type 3260. now that i think about it, its 3 sets of pads, but thats not 55 sessions, thats 55 20 minute races plus 2 qual sessions each weekend and a practice on sat morning. a test day @ Mid Ohio in the rain and a thrusday parctice day @ Mid Ohio. the Championship race @ Mid Ohio was 40 minutes so i just counted it as 2 20 minute races.

i've posted what i run here and others had terible results. Carbotech XP10's. no cooling ducts. and i brake as hard as the tires will let me.

Glenn, again, thanks for explaining the rules. I should've asked it over here, as it kinda got lost in that thread.

Nah, just the un-enlightened biggrin.gif

And after reading Glenn's post above, HOLY CRAP, hopefully I get the same wear out of the XP10s I've got sitting on the shelf.

I did mean 3260. I can never find that "3" key smile.gif
can we get Carbotech's from Porterfield with the NASA discount?
GlennCMC70
Contact Tony G over on the CMC forum and order them directly from him. no way to get them cheaper. they did step up and become a sponsor for Nationals this past year.
i do not think they are part of Porterfield.

fronts are like $160 and the rear XP8's are like $110.
i just installed my 2nd set of rears the week after Nationals (9-17-06) and my 3rd set of fronts back in Aug this year. car started w/ new front and rear pads in March '05.

Hey I see you can now run the vette calipers. Make sure you get the red ones that say Vette....... One more thing the mustang guys can bitch about....

Speaking of which. I've got some Z06 calipers sitting around that I'm not going to use. I decided to go with C4HD stuff instead. They aren't pretty, but they'd be awesome for track brakes.

Z06 caliper pics

Make a reasonable offer, I can't remember what they're worth, but I've got $160 in them.
mitchntx
They are ~$95 each new from my local dealer. Of course, knowing the parts manager helps ...

I know, but he didn't get back in time last time I called him, and I need brakes ASAP. Any way I wanted to try the HT-10. I give the Carbotech's a try for Febuary and hopefully March, maybe April.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll put them in the Classifieds now that I've remembered I have them again. rotf.gif

I want to change to the calipers. But it will cost about as much to buy the calipers as it will to replenish my reservoir of SRF ... wink.gif

Just the caliper or does the bracket come with it?

When I bought mine for about the above price it does not come with the Abutment Bracket..

PBR Caliper and PAB kit

I bought the generic PBR caliper and pad abutment bracket kit from KORE3. It's identical to the GM/C5 stuff from PBR, but without the GM trademarks. I bought the set on sale for a great price, but I think the normal price is still better than buying the separate GM pieces.

Note: I don't know anything about their C5 conversion bracket, and personally would (and did) just stick with the proven Bishop design.
mitchntx
Sean, we have to run the F-Car rotors. It's just the calipers that we can change.
sgarnett
Do you still use the C5 PAB, or the stock fdbody PAB?

The Kore3 kit I linked is the generic C5 caliper and PAB (no conversion bracket). I don't know if they sell the generic caliper separately. I can't find it listed, but they may sell it as a replacement part by phone. Their prices on GM-branded components are no better than available elsewhere.
mitchntx
I saw the plain caliper listed. Not a bad price.

If the PAB was used, we'd have to use the C5 pad. Can't do it.

I know there are some "concerns" with using the C5 caliper on an F-Car rotor. But I'm gonna give it a go ....

I don't think it's anything that can't be fixed by juggling your rear pad compound. Since most of us already do this, it shouldn't be much of an issue to fine tune it if needed.
mitchntx
Remember, there is no ABS in CMC.

Right, that was kinda my point, less aggressive rear pads to make up for the loss of front caliper clamping load. This change would help restore bias and balance to the brakes.

I'm told by my local brake guy that the Chrysler 300C uses the same C5 caliper, without the Corvette logo, so maybe that is where they are sourcing them.
Unbalanced Engineering
Scott,

I like the HT10 much better than the XP8. Try a few different pads and see which one works best for you.
