The first thing it says is this is not a recall, and don't automatically take the car in. It goes on to say that the failure rate on the left OR right catalytic converter is high, and they are extending the warranty on them. If you have already had them replaced, they have a reimbursement program.
Not sure if I should sent it back stating something like, "thanks, but the stock cats have been in a box in the garage since the car was about a year old. I will make you a great deal on them."

I'd carry them in and ask them to exchange them. Tell them "they might have been bad if they were on the car and I want new ones".

Got the same letter. I'm thinking of sending them a letter back saying that I replaced the convertors already . . . with 3" pipes!

I pulled the cat off of my '89 Formula, added a Dynomax exhaust (3") and lost HP. I guess I am getting old, I didn't want a loud exhaust on this car either, which explains why the stock exhaust is on there.

I still have mine. Stainless headers might be on the someday list, but aren't likely to hit the short list anytime soon.

I also got that letter in the mail. The dealer already replaced my driver's side cat a couple of years ago. Warranty FTW!

Once, while consolidating several boxes of ammunition, I had to stop the cat from chewing on the lead bullets. Then I realized, if a cat had brain damage, how could you tell? Maybe you've answered the question; or, maybe not

I had a bunch of .308 cases that were resized and primed and sitting in a tray on a box in the corner of my computer room. I then started to notice that they were migrating into my bedroom. I have a cat that likes to bring me tools and other items out of my computer room. He had started bringing me cases as "gifts". I decided that I had to move those to higher ground before he found the powder and bullets.

I just got this letter a couple of days ago myself. Coincidentally, my 2k Z28 has been throwing codes for the driver side after-cat O2 sensor (P0137), could this be a sign of the cat failing?
Trance
Dec 14 2006, 12:20 AM
Probably so. Mine has been doing the same thing for a year. I have replacements, but I'm really not looking foward to working on it. I hate bolts on exhaust systems...
Is it giving you the "low catalyst efficiency" or whatever code?
wdtiger
Dec 14 2006, 10:05 PM
It's something about low voltage readings.
Trance
Dec 16 2006, 09:28 PM
Yeah, low switching voltage. Apparently, that's the code for "bad cat". I need to look in the service manual to be sure though, unless someone else knows for sure.
