For those who may be looking for HPDE events at Watkins Glen this season, trackmasters has posted their event schedule and has openned reservations for the season. They are a very serious and safety minded group and have programs from the novice level through to Open Track. I have run with them for the last 9 seasons and highly recommend them. Their school groups tend to fill quickly since they limit the number of students, so early reservations would be a wise idea. Open Track generally has no limit to the number of entrants. If you're interested, info is on their web site. www.trackmasters.com I pay to participate in their events. I have no monetary interest in their organization. However, if you are looking for good instruction as a student or 5 hours of track time daily in Open Track, I'd recommend you check them out.

they have horse races at the Glen? tongue.gif

I did a quick search and it's http://www.trackmasters.com no "s" sends you to a horse racing site.

Thanks for the info

So I had a friend that used to do trackmasters at the glen with his talon.
I wanted to do it this year, but seeing that I don't have a lot of experience it seems like the only thing I would be aloud to participate in is the novice school days in August?

The Glen Valley Chapter of the BMWCCA puts on an excellent 2 day driving school at WGI a few times a year. It sells out quickly, and opens to club members first, but anyone can join. I think PDA is there often, but I've never run with them. EMRA usually runs at WGI in the fall, I'm not sure about COM or SCDA. CARTCT I believe gets a day too.

If you have prior track experience, you can contact Tony Funicello, the Chief Instructor via their website and see if you are qualified to run as an intermediate student. Trackmasters runs many intermediate schools throughout the season, but usually only one or two novice schools. Sounds like you may have a shot at the intermediate schools. Worth checking on it to be sure.

I think I'd be better off starting with the novice days and maybe seeking more info on the bmwcca and pca driving schools at the glen/mosport in addition.

Dennis-

I'm going to plan on going to the May 5th track day with a buddy of mine (Gene) who typically runs an NSX, but will be tracking a worked Sti now.

Hoping to go right to Open Track checkout.

Dennis,

I'll be there all three days (5/5-5/7). My son, Stephen will be there in the school program with his turbocharged Neon ACR on the 6th and 7th. Have you contacted Blake or Tony about your status for checkout yet? If you've made reservations for the event, did you try to reserve a garage? Are you coming up for the day or are you staying? Assume you have your chosen places to stay, but if you need a suggestion, just pm me. Finally we'll get to meet!!!

Borden Mills is going to Summit with the NJBMWCCA in mid April. If I can get the car sorted and track prepped I may go as well. Just took delivery of a turnone P/S pump so I don't have to worry about the 5 year old OEM one finally giving up on me. Looking forward to the May event.

Dennis-

I'd probably come down Friday afternoon and stay. Blake told me to send my track resume in, and to include that he recommends me for checkout to open track.

I didn't register yet, but will shortly. I will also be at Summit in April. Will be my first test with the cage, some more comfort items, new hubs, etc. Hope you can make it.

Sounds like a plan. Checkout is primarily a matter of verifying three or four main thigs: car control, driving the correct line, track awareness and courtesy, and composure in traffic. As soon as I get my garage assignment, I'll let you know where I'll be. crossing my fingers about getting the car ready in time for the April Summit.

Dennis"s.........lol

Hope to see you guys there this year! drink.gif Just getting the car ready now, hope to get some tuning done ( New Era in Rochester ).

Then the usuall..........all new fluids, check everything ( @ least 3 times!)

Just as a FYI..........I went to the Pro Stop brakes last year ( over 20 track days) and other than getting the pads sorted out, the Rotors held up fine! 2thumbs.gif ( not to mention, I think I can put your eyeballs thru the windshield nutkick.gif )

Can't wait to see you guys!

Gary,

Hope to see you at the May event. Envy you the big brake kit. I'm still struggling with the OEM calipers and such. Going to try the Hawk DTC70s up front and HT14s out back this season and see if that helps any. Would be nice to have a group of 4th Gen F-bodies in the OT group. Like you, I'm going through the car in prep for the coming season. Wonder what we can expect from the repaving?

I'm going to the 4/23-24 WGI event with COMSCC. $375 for both days, or $195/day - can't beat that! Got to get the big brakes on, and new tires mounted. 2007, here we come! smile.gif Registration is still open for another 3 days.
Teutonic Speedracer
Dennis,

Will I still be seeing you at the Glen on Saturday?

It was good to see both Dennis and Gary at this event, even if our time was brief. I was only there for the one day, but I got a decent amount of track time. Happy I came through the esses before that Mustang blew oil on the track (I tracked out at about 137-8 the lap before the black flag came out), hitting about 146 before the bus-stop. I'll have to time laps off the video when I get a chance.

... so of us will be waiting patiently for the video. Let me know if you need a place to host it.

Dennis...............That's pretty fast! My best @ the back strait is 138-140! Was nice to see you and Dennis. Had a oppurtunity to go out with Dennis's son as a instructor. The car he drives ( Neon ACR) is a hoot around the track. Of course it could have something to do with cornerweighting and a turbo 2thumbs.gif

Just tried uploading it to my computer, and the camera and Vista don't seem to be agreeing with one another. banghead.gif

Dennis,
Good to get to finally meet you. That's quite the track car you've got . Hope to see you at some other events- Kid's Day maybe?

Gary,
Thanks for your help with Stephen. he's just starting to get a handle on the car with all the new suspension, wheels, and Turbo power. He was beginning to get into a rythm the last two sessions on Sunday. He was riding as my passenger when the Mustang blew the front end off of his engine in the esses. We were among the first to encounter the debris fiels just as the lights went on and the flag came out. I was surprised and proud of how composed he was coming on to that situation at fairly high speed. See you at Kid's Day?

I'll be at the Nasa HPDE event at the Glen as a novice July 16th and 17th I wanna say, even though I realize this is a trackmasters thread. I'm kind of bummed though the Trackmasters novice school filled up pretty fast apparently and I didn't realize it.

The trackmasters schools fill up very early and very rapidly. I think this is partly due to the fact that most "students" are people who have been told about the school by other students or Open Trackers. Trackmasters doesn't advertise in magazines, etc., so most people find out through word of mouth. I believe there are only one or two novice schools this season as trackmasters doesn't mix novices with more experienced students. Sorry you couldn't get a reservation. Did you check to see if there was a "wait' list for cancellations?

Good luck in your Novice school. I'm sure you'll find The Glen an amazing place. Learn the line and be smooth, that's the quickest way to have fun and be safe. Enjoy!
