I recntly got a horrible rattle, sounds like its coming from the catalytic converter area so I'm thing it broke apart. I though you told me something about a bulletin or recall on them Kevin. thanks

Adam,

There is an extended warranty on them. One side already failed. It rattled for about a week and then the car was down on power a bit (as it came apart) and then it went away (after all the parts blew out of the car).

Here's the thread on it and it has the bulletin number in there too:

sounds exactly like what's going on with it. It happened pretty suddenly. It also melted the wires for my cutout so I'm guessing it's letting a little bit of fire out at WOT. It sounds like it's on the passenger side. I read your thread and pretty much did the same thing you did start looking at long tubes and an off road y. So im gonna go to the dealer tomorrow morning and see what they say. If they refuse I'm calling GM.

I didn't have a leak of any kind. However, if it was backed up/plugged as it came apart, it will get hot (a clogged converter can glow red hot, though it never did on the first one). That may be what burned your wiring.

Also, can you do me a favor? We don't allow sig pics on this board (they make threads hard to follow and some have been less than family friendly...though the car looks good!!!), any chance you could remove that one for me? I have to use the same rules for everyone (even if I like that car...since it was mine).wink.gif

You may have to turn the rear O2's on for it to "fail" so that they can diagnose it. I scheduled an appointment, and it quit rattling and since there was no code, I figured they'd tell me I was nuts and to go away. So, I just let it go and didn't have it fixed.
