I ok'd this post since we have people interested in such cars here.

Actually, I figured Costas might want a 4th gen to go with the rest of his collection.

'99 was the last factory year for the 1LE. Damn I wish I had seen this car before I bought the '00. Plus I bet the cluch in this one is OK, unlike the '00 :-\

1999 is the last year for a factory 1LE. After that you could get the 1LE cars from SLP, but they would have T-tops and power seats etc... causing them to be heavier than a real 1LE.

I'll give you a qualified "yes" on that.

I paid slightly more for mine going on 3 years ago. It wasn't in nearly as nice condition, having spent most of its life as a drag racer of sorts, but it had a fresh $10K forged internals, 435 RWHP motor. I was also willing to pay a premium for the Hugger Orange.

As many have said, someone will want that car and will pay close to your asking price for it. You just may need to be prepared to wait a while for that to happen. (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I'm not so sure it's going to fetch $16k. I'm not saying your car is not worth it - it's a very nice car and the right person would pay it but consider this:

A stripper was low-priced at the dealership, and I know some stripper Z28s were going for less than $20k new in 1998 when I bought my A4. It too was a 1LE but with every option except 6-disc changer (wierd, I know). I paid $25,500 for it plus tax, tag, title, etc. I sold that car a little over a year ago for $7500. at 76k miles, and the car was still in good shape. While the 1LE option is rare, and it's a stripper to boot, the people who would most value that combination are competitive drivers. Now, knowing that competitive drivers either scrape cones or rub fenders... you're not likely to get a racer to buy that very nice car at that high price for competitive purposes when other similarly equipped cars, perhaps with more mileage or a few dings and scratches can be purchased for much less. Only a collector with some money to blow who appreciates the value of a 1LE stripper, and would rather blow that money on a car like yours than any other car would consider paying $16k for the car... and those people are hard to come by. You could wait a long time finding the right buyer. It's like looking for a perfect wife - Lower your standards a bit so you don't die a virgin.

At the same time, it's worth well over $10k. People who offer you $10k or less are simply desperate or unrealistic. If you think that a new no options Chevy Aveo is going for $10k, your car would blow even a new Aveo out of the water in every aspect. If I were selling it, I'd drop the price to $14k and make a deal. (I finally got married to an imperfect wife, too! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

I wish you very good luck with the sale, and if I find someone willing to pay a bit more for a very nice car, I'll point them in the right direction.

But he is not selling a new commuter shiatbucket. He is offering a relatively rare, low-mile, some might say collector car.

If not collector now, possibly in the future. Camaros do drop in price a fair amount, though, so less than $16 may be fair. Still, unless you are wanting to unload the car (distressed sale), you may be able to get that for it when the right person comes along. So if you are willing to wait, you may get what you ask. If you want to get the ca$h out fast, drop your price, IMHO.

That is why I suggested he post here. I figured one of the crazies would jump all over this car. Particularly from the 99 year, what with the LS1 and the torsen stock.

And I paid $20,500 for my 98 1LE in September of 97 (100$ under invoice on an early order car.) And this one is darned near new.

Wow, I saw Dave's 99 1LE Firebird sold for $17,500 with 53,xxx miles. And I think the WS6 was about a 100 lbs heavier than the Camaro.

Why is a WS6 100 lbs heavier than a Camaro?

My old '98 1LE weighed 3360 with 3/4 tank of gas on the scales at Texas Motorplex. My '01 T/A, also with 3/4 tank of gas, weighed 3490 on the same scales.

FWIW I sold my '98 in 2001 for $15.5K with 24k miles.

OK why would a Formula WS6 be heavier than a Camaro?

I'm not sure why details get missed so much sometimes. Pat was on it though.... A Pontiac only weighs more than a Camaro because of the headlight stuff, the rest of the car is the same.

Comparing a TA to a '98 1LE is fine. But 1LE's had crank windows, this one was Camaro, so no headlight stuff..... Of course the TA had a power seat too, maybe a CD changer????? The TA would have had 17's and the Camaro 16's (unless that was changed), and so on.

A *1LE* Formula and a 1LE really aren't much different at all.

AFter 1997 Pontiac did not make any regular Formula 1LE's... They only offered the Factory 1LE option with a WS6 option car.

The WS6 had the headlight motor additional weight... but the Fiberglass hood less than the Steel hood camaro. My '99 WS6 Formula 1LE weighed 3360 w/ Full tank of fuel.

Camaro 1LE's are stripper Camaro's... still valuable to anyone who likes collectibility, or is an Automotive Sports enthusiast. But Camaro 1LE's won't bring what Pontiac 1LE's bring... Pontiac has made less than 250 1LE's in 12 years... Chevrolet did that many in 1 and 2 year runs...

I still think this car is worth about $13K to me... But I bought a 2002 Z28 6spd car... w/ 13K miles for $13,500 2 years ago... And unfortunatey... performance wise... the '01 & '02's are a bit better.

Peace,
Dave
