> So, who knows about Arizona road racing in the 'winter'?, Where would a Canuck play in Jan - March?

I am planning what has become an annual trip from Vancouver BC to AZ after New Years. I usually take the Avalanche so we can meet any weather without a hassle. I'm thinking of hanging the Trans Am on the hitch this time.

Who knows where I'd be able to run a SCCA GT1-prepped car in central AZ?

Winter is prime time down here, too hot in the summer!

In southern AZ, you've got groups racing at the 3 courses of Firebird Raceway, and also outside of Willcox AZ at Inde. I used to (and will when I get my engine built) run with ProAutoSports.

Inde is pretty popular as well as Firebird. I don't know if AMP (Arizona Motorsports Park), over by Luke Air Force Base, is open. It was supposedly designed/built by the same bunch that built Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, but the promoter ran into problems with local city officials and the track was shut down. I've also heard that Firebird is going to go through some type of restructuring in 2013; not sure what will happen.

A couple of guys at work run with ProAutoSports and enjoy their atmosphere, but I've not entered any of their events.

Thank you both for the info. I've spent some time looking at each location and the organizations/rules etc.

I don't want to become a member at Inde, and I can't tell if they have any actual wheel to wheel racing that I can enter. The Firebird track looks like it will host its last event in March (under that managment anyway) and I can't see a class for me there (I can call someone maybe). The AMP has no actual racing as far as I can tell. Are there any SCCA or NASA events that you know of? The Pro Auto Sports looks the best, but I run race tires and their rules seem to limit production cars (non-tube framed) to DOT rubber.

Check out the Arizona Region SCCA Solo site, too:

http://www.azsolo.com/events-info/2012-phoenix-schedule

They're pretty active during the winter months, and currently have an event planned on Dec. 2 in Phoenix. I know very little about them, other than a friend who we used to autocross with moved there when he retired and switched from an E Mod Jensen to an A Stock(?) 135 BMW. He lives in Pahrump(sp), and drives to the events.

That 3rd Gen will probably fit well in CP or XP. You may not be competitive, but it could be a fun way to warm the tires on a weekend.
