I FINALY got around to going to my first autox sesson this weekend at raceway park in NJ. I have never had so much fun behind the wheel of my car in all my life. Ive wanted to give it a shot for a while but I couldnt convince any of my friends to go, they are all to into drag racing too much to care.
But anyway I had a blast and completely distroyed what was left of my already dying GS-C's. I started the day out with about 66 seconds runs but by the end of the day I had a best of 60 seconds and something. Im so glad I found this board looking for suspension info otherwise I probaly would have never gotten around to it. |

Pimpmaro, our fearless moderator, was a drag racer when I met him. He now owns a set of 17" autocross wheels, but only 16" street wheels (and a set of Victoracers to go with them). He's hooked. He'll never race while dressed in womens clothing again......
(IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/rotf.gif) Glad you finally gave it a try. Too bad you waited until most seasons are over to get hooked. It's going to be a long winter...... :drive: |

A friend of mine was there at Englishtown on Saturday because Mazda was launching the new Miata. My neighbor was there on Sunday with his dirtbikes, when he saw all of the cones he came over looking for me knowing I autocross. I was over 2 hours away at Island Dragway with friends instead. I figure drag racing is the best way to test all of the go fast parts every now and then. The 'great pumkin' (as it was loving called) ran a 13.96 @ almost 100 even.
If you're not far from Giant Stadium you should look up www.nasanortheast.org and www.theMclub.net Both of them run a full schedule once the weather warms up again. This post has been edited by slowTA: Nov 15 2005, 01:06 AM |

They handle pretty well (enough to beat the Rustangs in ESP), accelerate pretty well, but brake sucky! Welcome to the dark side! (IMG:http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/style_emoticons/default/cool.gif) |

Sounds like you ran with the NNJR/SCCA. The core group is a nice bunch of guys. Did you ask for an instructor? If you didn't, you'll find that you'll make greater progress with their help. F-body champs Mike and Diane Johnson are frequent participants as are Bruce Bellom and Ron Bistrais. All of them have vast experience autoxing F-bodies and would be good resources. Tony Crea is a fun person to take a ride with or have for an instructor. If you go again, ask for an instructor when you register. Glad you had a good time. Once you get used to autox and looking ahead, you'll want to try an HPDE. After all if you had fun in 60 seconds of track time, imagine what 20-30 continuous minutes would be like on a road course. You've taken a first hit off the 'ol go fast crack pipe, there's no turning back now.

Someone I know told me about the M club. I actualy don't live in NJ anymore I was just home visiting. I live up in CT now. I went with an instructor the first run and he gave me some good pointers. The next time ill probaly go with another instructor and probaly let one of them take it for a run. I was just having too much fun to even really care about if my times were getting better. But at least they did a little. |
